Sounds like an air leak.

Check all the blocked pipes on the car, including the lean-out pipe. And check the mating of the manifold.

cheers lads where this lean-out pipe?

mating of the manifold?

Blocked off the dumpvalve but still probs.

Got something to do with the temp cos when its left standing for a while it sorts its self out, but soon as you drive it then stop does it again.
Really have no idea. Seems to be running cold aswell!

Or is a case taking the carb off and doing all the gaskets and putting back on?

Hi,
Right then, search and you would find....

Lean off pipe goes between 3 & 5 as shown in the picture..... Save the link in your favourites *wink*
Try "Bradex Easy Start" to find the leak. This is a spray can full of highly flammable / explosive chemical, so be careful where you spray it!!!
When you spray it on the air leak the engine will rev up...
Cheers,
Gavin :)

stoke-on-trent

easy start is available from pretty much any motor factors and halfords - any car shop really, as bat says be careful with the easy start.

Or use an unlit propane blow torch, a bit less dangerous, but still be careful.

Sold the turbo and seeing what the C20XE can do!

Near Lincoln

intercooler would make no difference, just mean you would have less boost and unfiltered air going into the engine.

i dont no enough about the way engines work but there must be only a few places where air can bring the temp right down. I'm talkin massive diff here from near on a 100 right below 40

Hi,
Yep.
I think the temperature thing is unrelated.
Get it running right first, then sort the temp.
Cheers,
Gavin :)

Hi,
In that case it's got to be the thermostat...
That's the only thing that would allow the engine to over cool.
Cheers,
Gavin :)

even so it still shouldnt do this at 40degrees. have you also blocked off the dump valve trigger pipe? check inlet manifold gaskets as said, also check the leanoff pipe very carefully for splits, then get back to us if it's still doing it after these things.
