Hi all

When I take mini for a drive and return back home, as soon as I switch off the engine I get a load of coolant dump out. I am pretty sure it's coming from the radiator overflow in the filler neck. I don't have any other problems, no water loss when driving, water temperature always reads normal. Anybody have any ideas or experienced the same thing?

Cheers
Rich

No idea, didn't know you could get different temp rated rad caps?

My friends Clubman was pissing coolant all over the place due to an incorrect cap. He changed it and has not had a problem since (apart from being hit by an artic, but that's another story).

Just a thought.

The cap I am using I think is the original which came from a 1983 1000cc Mayfair. Do I therefore need to get a heavy duty one?

I can have a look to see what mine is when I get home. Unless anyone knows off the top of their heads.

could be the rad cap leaking,

with a 15 psi cap from a metro the coolant shouldn't boil until 120 deg.

Hi,
How much coolant have you got in the rad when it's cold? Should be just covering the gills *wink*
+1 for 15psi rad cap.
Cheers,
Gavin :)

Have you overfilled the rad, causing it to come out when it gets upto temp?

I must admit I have been filling it up well over the top of the cores and I have also just checked the radiator cap and it is the 15lb one. So may just be user error with overfilling.

Hi,
As the coolant heats up it needs some room to expand *wink*

If it's evacuated iself after getting up to full running temp and you don't top it up again and it's still filled over the cores and it doesn't throw out anymore then I wouldn't worry. I know there is an easier way of saying all that!
