Sorry non-turbo and its a metro! still aseries tho

changed my vacuum pipe from the carb to the dizzy because it was split. Before it was running run, maybe a tiny bit hesitant and did backfire but only did that about twice when cold. after it was very spluttery and seriously hesitant and sometimes would backfire.

Took the spark plugs out, were a bit back so cleaned up the surfaces and put them back in. Tried to start. coughed, spluetterd but wont start. If I try and start it it wont do anything, if I give it abit of throttle while trying it just coughes, backfires but wont start. White smoke was then coming out of the back of the carb/airfilter.

engines standard. 1275 metro gta. Would be very greatful if anyone can help. Cheers

Try replacing the plugs.

I had the same symptoms when I got back from holiday. It ran really bad as you describe. I cleaned the plugs and it made things worse. I checked them out, and all were producing sparks (quite weak though).

A quick trip to Halfords for a new set of plugs cured the problem straight away!

Check the dizzy cap as stated above, or ignition module. You did put the leads back on in the right order?

It runs again now ive changed the plugs but still like it was before i took the old ones out and put them back.

I will check the dizzy cap, coil etc

Does it 'backfire' from the exhaust or up from the carb?

Metro GTA, does that have the breakerless or points type dizzy? I had symptons like this on a points type dizzy where the points weren't lining up on contact.

do you have a spark?

It backfires through the carb.

It must have spark because its running again now

as for what type of dizzy (breakerless or points type) im not sure what each one looks like. It looks the same as the one on my metro turbo I know the caps are the same.

It sounds like your mixture is way out. Too lean if I remember correctly.
