I am currently in the planning stage of putting a turbo on my 1098…the body has been completely media blasted and epoxy primed. I have completely disassembled the engine….I would like to start laying out the tubing for the remote turbo before the engine gets back in the car. Which leads to my question….is there anyway some could take the following measurements off their mini? Sorry I am not an artist….

(A) Back corner of head to the bulkhead shelf
(B) Back corner of head to the side (opposite the radiator)
© Front corner of head to the front beam on above the grill
(D) The elevation difference between the top of the head and the top of the bulkhead shelf.

Any information would be hugely appreciated…

Look at this post

That drawing is to scale but its a 1275 engine. I have it as a CAD file using a free program you can download from http://www.emachineshop.com
PM me if you want that file and info...

I used it a lot to work out the clearances on my GT15 install, and split the Turbo drawing out to spin it etc to make sure it would fit. Without that free software it would have been much more difficult

Hi,
The front end off a scrap shell would be ideal for this, if you've got the room.
Cheers,
Gavin :)

Thats how i did all the preliminary mock up stuff on my car in a scrap front end. Not using it any more as someone else had greater need for it and the manifold had been done for me. Good old specialist components!

Turbo Tel, thanks for the CAD files. They were a huge help in determining the firewall to engine clearance.

Bat, I would love to find a parts car, unfortunately I have been unsuccessful in finding one. If there is anyone in the SC, USA area that has one they want to get rid of, please let me know.

My current plan in my head is to put the turbo on the side of the engine…Turbo Tel has helped me out with the (A) dimension…is there one that can help me with the rest? Once again your help is greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
Mike

I have completed a simple model of the engine compartment and I am starting to rough out the engine. I think I have it positioned fairly close to the right spot; the only thing I still do not know is the height of the engine in relation to the shelf on the bulkhead… If anyone would be willing to take this one measurement on their mini, it would be greatly appreciated!

The CAD shows this, but again its for 1275 engine... I'm not sure if there is a difference to the 998, probably is, maybe someone knows that. you would need to reference it from the engine/gearbox joint
