Hi,
Up for grabs, a gear reduction stater motor.
It's a bolt in replacement for the inertia (pre-verto) stater.
You can rotate the starter in relation to the engine by virtue of the multi-holed bracket on the end, ideal for front mount rads/ICs
This starter will spin your engine over faster and use less battery power than a standard one!
Price with a spare solenoid £100 posted.

Cheers,
Gavin :)

My mate converts such starters to fit on Imps, I currently have him machining me one up for the TT.

He sells them at a very reasonable rate. If anyone is interested I'll have a word.

Hi,
I've no idea.
Most of these type of starters look the same, but the housing of this one has the name of a now defunct company cast into it.
So I presume it's "custom" made...

Gavin :)

If that was aimed at me, then they are all from Jap cars. He buys new recon unit then machines up the end plates.

Here is another option...
Tell him if you have the Verto or inertia ring-gear and he'll supply whatever you need. They are very nice units.

Hi,
I've contacted one company, and will try others tomorrow. I'll let you know how I get on....
EDIT: That one TD has linked to looks a fair bit larger than mine...
Cheers,

After years of faithful service, my Gemini starter motor packed it in due to me getting oil into the solenoid from a mishap the last country track day.

I just bought a NEW replacement gear reduction unit for AUD $120
Just for a comparison, here's a pic of the new reduction gear starter next to a standard Lucas unit

The new one is an updated version of the Isuzu Gemini starter, but has gear reduction and is smaller, lighter and stronger.
Pic doesn't really give a true idea of the scale as it's heaps smaller. Took me ages to file the holes, as the mounting face is a much higher quality alloy.
Kitchen scales give it a an all up weight of 2.55kg for starter and solenoid - anyone want to compare that to the Lucas inertia type?

IS it me or does the picture at the top just look like a normal pre engaged starter?

So when some joey comes on here about how his 16v turbo vauxhall is great compared to ours, he can be given the 'bird'...

The Isuzu/Gemini unit I got is to suit a "pre-verto" flywheel. Bonus is that besides being a lot more powerful and lighter, it uses the opposite side of the ring gear so if your Lucas starter has chewed out the outer side, this will still work no worries. Very happy on a 1430cc stroker with Kent 296 cam and fairly advanced ignition.
