Simple question, what is the best recommended brake fluid for competition use with metro brakes?
Running standard brakes apart from different pads, bias & twin cylinders with no servo. Only driven car once, but no confidence in braking. *indifferent*

Hi,
DOT5.1 (I think) non-silicone.
What do you mean by no confidence... seems like you're never going to stop?
Has your daily driver got a servo on it?
Cheers,
Gavin :)

we use ap racing 551 fluid at work in the cars, its a dot 4 and we run our brakes up to 500 degrees and never had any problems with it.

Hi,
That's what I'm driving at! (groan)
If your daily driver has got a servo on it, you'll be used to that.
Non servo brakes need a lot more foot effort to get the same force at the pads...
Cheers,
Gavin :)

Soz bat. Got hard pedal etc, but in my limited time driving the car (10 laps qualifying) doesn't seem to stop as I like on the pedal. Is it metalic pads? No experience with them at all to be honest. Got them from minispares. Only other thing I can think off

Hi,
Try some different pads, what's does that other fellow on here use *wink*
If he uses the same, use more right foot *wink*
Maybe even left! *surprised*
Cheers,
Gavin :)

Uses the same pads with exactly the same setup. Thought maybe the old fluid may be the answer

Yeah old fluid will not help at all as most brake fluid absorbs water (hydroscopic). But the carbon metallic pads are great and will get even better with a bit of heat in them.

If it has the Carbom Metalic pads in, they really need some abuse to get them heated up.

In my mini when cold carbon metalics have no stopping what so ever!

I think Jon F has carbon metalics in has metro, but as we have seen from his glowing brake disk video he give his brakes some real abuse!

Jason,

could be an idea to get a set of std pads to start with and pop the metalics back in once you have built up some confidence?

He is quite awesome braking....hence me quite a few seconds a lap slower........... :(

Might try EBC's or something mini13 *smiley*

Hi,
That's a good idea, go for a hard compound standard material.
When you've got to the point that you've fried them, stick the carbon back in.
Have you asked Jon where his braking points are?
Cheers,
Gavin :)

Yes Bat. Just lack of confidence on my part. Got a midfield car, just need to sort these little issues out before the season starts.

Hi,
You'll probably laugh at this, but it's the same with racing my RC truck.
It takes time to learn the tracks, build your confidence in grip levels brake capabilities and so on.
It's only now coming into my third season that my lap times are getting consistent, and I'll have forgot most things over the winter! :(
Cheers,
Gavin :)

Yeah RC trucks are the best! No track near me though and not enough building sites for bashing!
