Having just spent 40 hours driving to the Alps and back (nice 80mph speed limits in France) at 62mph in a Transit Mini bus, I was wandering if anyone know how to remove / deactivate the bloody limiter? as so far it's cost me a good 10 hours of my life.

Hi,
How old is the transit? If it's got fly by wire throttle, you've got no chance, its done by the engine ECU.
You could unplug the speed sensor on the G/box, but that'll leave you with no speedo, may also affect performance too.
EDIT: Be very aware that the speed limit may be lower for different classes of vehicles as we have here in the UK!
Cheers,
Gavin :)

Thats grim. Mines a '93 N/A Diesel. Get 90 at a push, but ok at 75-80.

Start pulling fuses, you never know you might be lucky. I once did this on a hired Sprinter that was limited to 75mph, found the right one and did 90+ the rest of the way.

We just did door to door in 11 and a half hours for from the Alps. (St Cergue Switzerland to Silsden West Yorkshire) In a Nissan Nevara 105mph flat out all the way.

In the quest to beat the boredom we conducted a fuel test.

Changing from gasoil to super diesel gave us 110mph. 5 whole mph Result.! *happy*

Lots of cars etc with speed limiters will eventually throw a wobbler if they dont see a speed signal coming into the ecu..

You could try fuses, or try and locate the speedo sensor on the gearbox and unplug it.

9.85 @ 145mph
202mph standing mile
speed didn't kill me, but taxation probably will

This is exactly what I want to do. Get a smallish camper van and do a turbo diesel V8 transplant. Should be great for towing and just think of the look on peoples faces when one of those really slow campers overtakes them.

I mean one that size, think transit but a tiny bit bigger. Audi's 4.2 V8 diesel would be a nice shoehorn!

4.2 V8 diesel? Didn't know they did one, the only diesels I know of are the 2.5 and 3.0 V6 diesels?

The transplant of choice however would be the V10 TDI VW Touraeg engine. I have been in one of these, bloody unbelieveable quite frankly!

Your right, I mean the 4.0. The 4.2 is petrol. I'm not fussy, as long as it's V8, diesel and torquey. The way I see it is an A8 is what, 2 ton? It's quick (6.5 sec 0-60) and is supposed to get near 40mpg and tops 155mph limited. A compact camper would weigh a bit more but except for areodynamic affects I wouldn't loose too much speed or mpg.
