Mitsi Evo 7, 911, Cossie. & all the chavs ...... won no problem

intresting pic here , though not too clear, sadley *frown*

its from a motor a tore down for a customer some months back
just shows you how destructive detonation can be
although this if far from the worst one i have seen *laughing*

I deffo see a pattern emerging with relation to the damage.

Most of the time the damage is where there is no coolant jacket to speak of, where the bores are 'siamesed'

what would you say?

So when some joey comes on here about how his 16v turbo vauxhall is great compared to ours, he can be given the 'bird'...

Hi,
Makes sense, that would be the hotter part of the bore.
Cheers,
Gavin :)

Joey, I may be totally off track here but I think the sodium filled valve stems are more about protecting the valve seat face than preventing detonation.
what do you think?

Dave

Sprocket,... bat. i would agree! *smiley*

on examination the two inner bores have taken most of the punishment

pays to go a tad rich on the mixture to cool the piston crowns

matty, have you worn many light swithches out ...??????? ..Lol *laughing**laughing* i have over the years *tongue*

It was a standard MPi. My guess is that the driver proceded to use the car when the cam sensor had failed, resulting in non sequential injection and on the MPi, thats bad!! I have seen melted cats and all sorts of crazy stuff. The rings are slack as Norra Batty's stockings, the pistons litteraly fell out the bore. I also recon it was a high mileager with little care. Bores are shinier than a highly polished mirror. Its them Rover long term oil changes *laughing*

I think it was pre igntion rather than detonation that did this damage though

It had little chance *laughing*
