I've got some vertical marks on my bores. See link below...

http://www.turbominis.co.uk/forums/index.p...id=191396&fr=25

Should I worry about these?

Mitsi Evo 7, 911, Cossie. & all the chavs ...... won no problem

it will run and will be ok, but.... down on power a tad and may use oil

you could get away with a hone and fit new rings gary

i would not be happy if that were my engine to leave it like that,
best option is to have it rebored ......just my opinion
would like to know other peeps thoughts ..............

Rebore time for sure! For every % leak down you're seeing, you're missing the same % in power.

Honing would NOT fix that.

leeds/wakefield.

is this a reasonably recent rebore to start with,
if so , i'll go against most and say have it honed, it may well hone out well past bottom limit on skirt clearance, but i've run pistons with 0.009 clearance on the skirt and ran like a dream, never smoked , ran to 9K+ rpm , and never use a drop of oil.

leeds/wakefield.

so the bores will not have worn at that milage, i'd get it honed for what it'll cost, tell the machine shop to hone untill it measures 0.06 over skirt dia, and see what they look likem.
if he just gives it a quick going over they may not go , but the bore size will probably not changed either it does take a few mins to hone a few thous out depending on stones used.

got to be worth a go, imho.

Ive re-used worse before lol....

Depends on your budget, and how long you need it to stay together for.

If you really aren't concerned about having to rebuild it again in the near future.....blast away at it as is.

If you are, then do it properly now..

I'd attempt a hone and then see what it looks like as per fastcarls instructions.

Thanks Carl, please don't feel like I was trying to make you out to be an arse with this post. We all know that you are a decent, honest fella!*smiley*

For the record - Carl has offered to buy it all back from me. Hence the decent, honnest bit above.

I just need to get some options sorted.

Is there anyone local that would be able to give me a hand to strip it so that I can get it honed?

I really wouldn't feel comfortable doing it myself.

Cheers all

I'm in Harlow J7 off the M11.

Even if someone could have a look at it 'in the flesh' to see if it's as bad as it looks in the pics.

First mini turbo to get in the 12's & site perv

Herefordshire

Im no expert, but i reckon alot of that will hone out, you may be left with some scores, but i know my bores arent perfect and they still go ok

Its got to be worth the hone and then see whats left, but id probably end up running it then, just as the others have said.

If you try honing, flex hones would be unsuitable. You'll need a proper stone hone finish.

Sold the turbo and seeing what the C20XE can do!

Near Lincoln

to be fair, a newly maching block is in the region of £140 so its not the end of the world, you have all the expensive parts. (i know £140 is a fair amount but you can see where i'm coming from)

its not that difficult to strip, take you're time, pictures and it will be fine, you may need a bit of help reassembling but i'm sure that would be easy enough.

to be honest, i think a hone may well get it good enough, my bores have some marks due to me being a twat and leaving it on the garage floor for a few months! (slight pitting) but my car goes well and doesnt smoke at all.

i've found that the only thing that really creates noticeable smoke as long as you engines reasonable is a dodgy turbo!

you may get a mild haze from rings but you'll notice the performance first.
