Hi,
Well the good news is its all in nicely on the exhaust side of things :)

The bad news is the compressor side is way too big! :(

I've tried spacing the turbo from the manifold, the thickness of 2 M8 nuts, but that just stuffs the comp housing up the bulkhead.
Any suggestions?
Cheers,
Gavin :)

I can't see the pictures.

Get someone to make a decent manifold that will tilt the turbo.....

How much more clearance do you need?

Can you move the lower engine mounts forwards slightly (I've heard Rover did this on the MPIs) and tilt the engine slightly?

It may sound daft, but can you flip the manifold over 180degres and mount the blower like it is on th DON?

Hi,
Rob ... I've already got the MPi subframe in there :(
Shane ... If I didn't need an induction system, that would probably work! :)
I will look into it though :)
Cheers,
Gavin :)

LOl, fair point, but surely with it inverted there is room for a custom inlet poss efi below, I know there would be issues with the exhaust changing sides, but I guess by the fact your offering up the turbo on a mirrage setup, your looking for minimal work, If so, Ill just shut the fook up! lmao! *happy*
In all seriousness with out a relief in the bulkhead, or a custom manifold, relocting the engine mounts to bring the engine forward, I cant think of an easy solution yet.

Does't the MPi subframe make the engine sit further back to make room for the rad etc?

Does the compressor housing touch in all positions?

Hi,
The Mpi subframe move the engine forward, so the inlet and air filter can fit in.
Shane ... I'm thinking about custom efi inlet, just annoyed I've already got one nearly done, based on a MG/SU inlet manifold :(
Joe .. I like the sledge idea, but with the spacer there's still not enough room between the comp and the engine :(
I've got a feeling I'm going to talking to some people about bulkhead boxes and Metro manifolds *surprised* :
Cheers,
Gavin :)

it looks like it is hitting the engine, why not try a spacer? you could still have room maybe :)

Just grind the engine away - and a little of the compressor housing if needed. I did just that, and i believe others have done as well....
(assuming it is the engine that it's fouling)

Yup, i had to grind a fair bit of that bit of casting off, and heavily clean up the compressor casting. the casting is very thick there.

I didnt make it that clear, but i was on about the block casting being thick there. i must have ground 10mm off or more, just get the angle grinder to it, looks neat when its done, i'll try find a pic.

The difference in the radius from turbo spindle to outside edge of the compressor housing (T2 vs GT17) is about 10mm. So assuming that the spindle is in the same place, then you have 10mm to lose.

I'm pretty sure that the turbos that Nic and Iain use are more akin to the T25 which has similar compresor housing size to the GT17.

Yup, mine is a lot bigger than a R5 T2, the core of that looks very similar to mine although the comp housing is different.

Mine basically just goes between the bulkhead and the block on a std subby and a non-lengthed engine mount, i'm talking maybe 2mm clearance each side. I had to loose a bit of the exhaust housing as well, but only near one of the stud casting bulges.

i cant find the pics on this comp though *frown*

Is the diameter of the compressor housing smaller than the distance between the block and bulkhead?

If it is there must be a way of squeezing it in!
