ok ive had my little fiesta for 3 years now ,im on the road quite a bit and would like a bit more power without having to buy another new car as i cant affordthat at the moment ,so i was thinking of replacing the 1.25 duratec for some sort of zetec maybe a 2.0 or 1.8 as these seem preety cheap to buy and readily avalible allthough i have thought of rs turbo route this seems Too much work for me and seems as if it maybe a little more difficult than a zetec,

so im just wondering what an engine conversion would entail???
Any suggestions guys??

Cheers

These new modern turbos with their quick spool up time, would make the competition harder.

Ford I believe have had a habit over the years of reusing as many old parts as possible, meaning quite a few items are intercahngeable, so you may find the mechanicle side quite easy to achieve, the issue I would be concerned with more is the differences in engine management.
Just my thoughts, sorry its not much help.

yes now thats what i was thinking shane, the Ecu being a bigger problem as im told the duratec is a cheaper zetec?but the same size?
maybe if i took the ecu from that certain car then itmay be ok???
aaaahhhh!!

Hi,
If you've got the ECU and loom you may be in with a chance.
I say chance because the immobiliser could be your biggest headache!

The 1.25 is the yamaha engine isnt it? which has a differant bell housing to the Duratec and to the Zetec i think!

At any rate id be fitting the 1.7 'Zetec SE' (the yamaha one) over any of the others, they are featherweights and a proper thinking mans option.

The original Zetec is also a pretty good choice mainly beacuse they are ten a penny but like i say im pretty sure a 1.25 will have a a differnt bellhousing pattern.

slater im sure you are right on the yamaha engine,
so i assume it would be a case of getting different engine mounts??which are pretty easy to get i guess,
another option would be to buy a crashed ST and use all the parts, but then it become expensive,
il look into the 1.7 puma option although at the moment a tuned 2.0 mondeo zetecis looking the simplest option.

im wanting to dothis also in my van!!!
My van runs on lpg too its a 1.3 8v, but i dont think the 1.8 fits in? ive seen the puma conversions too are they easy to put in? Any custom parts like driveshafts?

I had to bypass my immobiliser last week on my fiesta when i fitted all new locks.... all i did was taped the old key to the immobiliser module and hid it behind the dashboard...! It was the cheapest way possible to get all new keys, and my ignition barrel and door locks were all knackered!

oh i forgot too mention its a 2004 lx,so im not sure if this makes any differance,
if i put a 1.8 mondeo zetec in im told il just need a BLOB ecu and thats pretty it,and then the turbo option is there,
but james thats what ive also heard can be done with keys just make sure the original is in he cowling?.
what van do you have?
sorry to post this in here but id rather get your lots knowledge than ask a 17yo telling me to buy an rst......lol

Hi,
You can stick the key in the steering column cowl.
That won't help if you've changed the engine ECU as that'll be coded to the immobiliser ECU in the car it came out of!
