MRA sell the discs turned, but give the option for grooves and cross drilling, so what would be the best to go for?

cheers

neither!? dont like the drilling, always seems to lead to fractures in teh disk.(this is in general) and never had any issue with good old plain disks. IMHO ofcource.

I've heard that the grooves in the disc eat the pads for breakfast aswell. Can anyone confirm or say different??

Crossdrilling disks does quite often end up with fractured/cracked disks. Grooves simply machine the worn face off the brake pads and keep them nice and fresh. They also aid cooling and prevent brake fade.

I'd strongly reccomend a good branded standard disk (oem spec). Certainly for road use.

For track use go for the groove as they help keep pad glaze down.

Ive allways used plain. I can see the point in grooves but not so much with drilling, atleast in solid disks anyway. i just think its unessicary.

Fast road and track, grooved with some good pads.

Road use really is nothing like track use.

Here's an example not mini but worth a mention.

Worked for a while a few years ago at a place that had some Dodge Vipers. Now this is a fair motor and you would think it would have brakes capable of track use. Nope! The standard viper brakes died in quick style, they would eat 2 sets of disks and pads in a day. This was just giving passenger rides and billies driving, not racing.

I think every drilled disk i've ever used has had cracks from the holes and these can grow to failure size. The holes can help in the wet. They help let out the steam generated when a wet saturated pad get applied, makes the brakes more consistant.

I'd say good plain vented 8.4's are more than enough for any mini road use.

We have some Tarox grooved disks on the TT2 (7 groove I think). Very good, but I put that down to quality of the material rather than the grooves.

In fact last year we did have standard metro disks on for one event and the brakes were crap.

Theres a reason that a lot of brake manufacturers use dimples rather than proper holes. As has been said already disc material is more important for road use rather the slots/drilled.
