My engine is only boosting to about 2psi. I checked the connections on the boost side, and all seems good. From the exhaust sound, it seems likely that the wastegate is stuck open. Haven't had time to mess with it. Anyone had this happen? Did wiggling the actuator arm get it unstuck, or did parts have to be replaced?

Sold the turbo and seeing what the C20XE can do!

Near Lincoln

shouldnt need anything more than a wiggle at a guess. there is nothing really to go wrong with the wastegate, unless you've lost a chunk of turbine housing...

Never had one 'stick open' as such. As Iain says, If all is well, then there is another issue.
Check everything on the compressor side first obviously.

I have had a wastegate stick open before, but the turbo was ran for quite some time wit hthe wastegate disconected from the actuator. pretty unusual circumstances but it can happen! i'd put money on the actuator holdign the wastegate open though! assuming no boost leaks ofcource!

this is the rear turbo'd mini isnt it? is the exhaust system before the turbo blowing at all?

if theres no exhaust/boost leaks, then the turbo cant be making any boost..

try pinching the actuator signal tube so its not seeing boost

make sure the wastegates fully closed and take her for a spin (obviously keep your eye on the boost gauge so you dont overboost the engine)

see if that makes a difference?

Thanks for all the suggestions.
Yes this is the rear-turbo car.

You're not going to believe this (I know I don't).

It's working fine now. No problem at all.

It started acting up when I went out for lunch, both on the way out and on the way back to work. When I drove home this evening, all was well.

Very odd. Certainly not even.

Hi,
Maybe the shaft sticking where it goes through the exh housing?

this can definately happen ,they get sticky then jam open , specially on bikes and wherever the turbo is exposed to water ,you can heat it up with a torch at the spindle area of the wastegate mechanism ,and wigle it back and forth with the pushrod disconnected ,and get it free ,then spray regularly with heat valve lubricant , i think gm make some in usa .

Thanks - I'll check it out this weekend if the weather warms up a bit. It was -20C a couple mornings ago.
