Hi,
Did someone mention a 600cc Triumph head as the bore spacing was close?
Cheers,
Gavin :)

I tried to research this a bit, but bore spacing information is not on the web. So I go to Ebay, find anybody that is selling a used bike head, and send them a message asking if they have an old head gasket lying around on the workbench. Sometimes they will let me have a junk gasket for postage, sometimes they will sell it for a pittance. Forget the big bikes, the Jap bikes bigger than 750 have too much bore spacing, I am trying to find gaskets now for the 600s, later Hondas and Kaws look interesting.

Today I dumped out the box of old head gaskets, nothing in the pile even close to a Mini, except the Toyota 3E, which was a 1.5L, 12-valve SOHC head, belt drive. Methinks one of these automotive smog heads could be a very tidy conversion, easier than a BMW bike head to adapt, if it already has a belt wheel hanging out the end. But of course the bore spacing of Minis is weird, very thin between cylinders, so normal heads like this one won't line up. For example the Toyota chamber volume must be big (it is a 1.5), so that makes me wonder if some welding could be done in the chambers to make them a little smaller, to better meet up with the Mini block bores. What else? Lots of Jap cars had 71mm bores and 16V heads, but I can't find any info on bore spacing. Does anyone have a gasket for a Nissan GA13DE (Sunny) or CG10DE/CG13DE (Micra) engine, or a Mazda B3 (Ford Aspire/Festiva?

I could get a fiat punto/cinquecento one to fit. But why would i want to do that?

Don't forget that the mini engine runs clockwise - when using the K head we run it "backwards" from its designed rotation - just as well those clever Germans put symetrical cam profiles in for us mini folk - just something else to look out for when searching for an alternative!

If Carling made Mini engines
it would probably be like this one!

I happened to check between a 998 head gasket and à Renault 1.2 16v and from what I concluded at the time it was quite good.

Good point is that it is doesn't have a silly camshaft for turbo application.

I think it calls for a double check

Ho, and I do own the Renault blueprint at 1:1 scale (I work there) so I 'll have another look ASAP

Is it A-Series only? I think it should be...
So when some joey comes on here about how his 16v turbo vauxhall is great compared to ours, he can be given the 'bird'...
