10mm nipples in metro 4 pots??

i've got some 10mm bleed nipples from minispares, as the ones in my 4 pots had seized.

ive drilled out the old nipples.

But my friend, who was going to machine the calipers to fit the bigger nipples, reckons that if he makes the seat deeper, to allow for enough thread to hold them in. he'll break through into the chambers???

i dont realy know what to do, was hoping that someone will have some idea of what i need to be doing.

im quite sure he is right .. theres naff all meat around the nipples tho i stand to be corrected! std sixe is 7x1mm.

can't answer your question... but i do have a spare pair of metty 4 pots. Let me know if you want them, i'm running an s setup now.

is the standard size not 6mm?!!

don't think the wall width is an issue, its just the depth, if the seat stays the same it'll only have about 1mm of thread holding it in!!??

its 7mm. and you defon don thave much to go in the depth department, i ruined my last 4-pots by drilling slightly deeper than they were origionally.

Helicoil ?

Metric is for people who can't do fractions.

No you can't use a helicoil unless you use a special one, as they aren't good with fluids penetrating them. I know of some which are okay for this application but are quite thick and therefore would end up breaking through in to the passage.

Surely the bleed nipple be screwed down hard against it's seat to seal ?
The leakiness of a helicoil won't be an issue.

its a bodge but you could just tap them and stick a bolt in with a copper washer, put a slit up the side of the thread and you can bleed from there too.

you could, but would you really want to bodge something as important as brake calipers?

And on the 7th day........... God created turbochargers!

Dont talk to me about calipers strip mine down to night heated them and everything and guest what happened ?
so what size are the niples 6mm or 7mm std?

do not helicoil something as important as brake bleed nips!!!

Imagine what sort of pressures you get in an emergency stop - then consider the other side of brake failure!!

If you're that worried about re-tapping a caliper to insert a helicoil, just scrap the caliper !

I fail to see how a helicoil will either a) leak, or b) promote failure if installed correctly.
A friend of mine has been running them in his split Metro 4-pots for years with no issues.

helicoils are in no way a bodge or weak link, you will probably find nearly every thread in an F1 engine is a helicoil.

I'm going helicol to hell with it. sure theirs always the handbrake. tho I'm not familiar on how it works but im sure google will tell me. (Helicols that is)

looks that way. but the pistons look in really good conditions as there had been new pads put in ,in 1987 lol. Its all ive got at the moment need to get rid of these drums!!!!
