Hi everyone im new to this site but not to minis,
I have a question about air fuel ratio, i just recently set up a air fuel guage in my car but cant figure out how to get it working, i have the power to the guage all set up and the sensor wire goes to my O2 sensor, its an original rover sensor form an MPI but cant get it to work, i first assumed the Hif44 carbs run pretty lean to begin with but not completly lean or? well if anyone knows how to set one up without a computer it would be greatly appreciated. thanks

What gauge have you got?

Hi,
Have you got the heater circuit connected up?
Where abouts have you positioned the sensor?
Is it the right type of sensor for the guage?
Is the exhaust system air tight?
Cheers,
Gavin :)

I have a Proport guage with one sensor wire, The O2 sensor is on the header right after output but before cat, same as an MPI or SPI is setup, the exaust is air tight, what do you mean with heater curcit? i have the same sensor from the mpi with the 4 wires, sensor and the others not shure as i do not have a ECU, do i need to send power to the unit or any suggestions? and if it helps i have a 1997 Spi motor block in an 89'mayfair german spec, with a Hif44 carb, cat back bastaok exaust, the motor is bored to 1380 roller rockers , non turbo at this moment...ect

I think there are 2whites wire 1 grey 1 black. If my memory is correct the black is earth, grey is your output from the probe and the 2whites are the heaters which need to be fed with 12v.

This is purely off the top of my head so I may have told you the wrong colours. But I think i am right.

Hope thats a bit of help to you

I thought one white wire went to 12V & the other to ground, can anyone confirm or deny this?

I went for the easy way out and brought an AEM gauge.

Hi,
Yes Rob.
1 white to 12V ignition live 3amp fuse
1 white to ground
1 Grey to gauge
1 Black to ground
The 2 whites are either end of the heater "coil"
I'm not sure how accurate that gauge will be as you're only using a narrow band gauge / sensor.
Cheers,
Gavin :)
