well after having a good few weeks on the mini i hit a bit of a dead end really. you all probably seen multiple radiator posts anyway i think ive managed to sort it hopefully but it has got me down today and it makes me wonder what is it that makes us spend our had earned and our time on a crapy old mini when i could have been knitting a wooley jumper or baking a cakewell anything relly thats inside where its warm :(

no longer a series, but still 1.3 turbo.

its not like theyre easy to work on either, i had to get the oxy out on 4 things this weekend, both top arms to get the bearings out, an inner cv had seized onto a drive shaft and a hub nut (so tight it ate my snap on knuckle bar when i put a scaffold tube on it), managed to brand myself quite badly too.

god knows why we bother...

I have the week off this week to do the garden, sort general stuff out and work on the car (not in that order) However as my raod car thermometer said it was -8 on the driveway not long ago I thing I will sort out general stuff for a while.

As for why. Well I am an engineer by profession, but spend most of my time writing documents and don't really ever get my hands dirty. If I wasn't doing the car it would be something else to keep the brain and body in tip top shape. Knitting is a challenge, I remember my first scarf, but it does get a bit boring when you have the knack.

According to Wikipedia 'frustration' is an emotion that occurs in situations where one is blocked from reaching a personal goal. The more important the goal, the greater the frustration.

Perhaps this post could be used as a inspiration next time we all get... FRUSTRATED... At least we know its not that bl**dy tin can in the garage taking it out on just me. It happens to us all!!

It's all fun and games until someone gets hurt... Then it's hilarious!

I have no Idea. All my mates just tell me to get a decent car!

I just totalled what the restoration owes me to date. Now I really do wonder why?

i know what makes me do it anyways, just rebuilt the shell recently. then had to strip the engine, then the gearbox died. but in the dry weather over the last week i have been out in the mini constantly, commuting aswell, and i cant wipe the smile from my face. one of my driveshafts snapped last night, now i need to cough up for some decent custom ones, am i annoyed?!? not even slightly, casue once its back on teh road i know i'll be smiling like a cheshire cat!

It's a long time since a mini made me grin, I use a sportpack as a daily commuter and am bored of it. I'm pushing on with a friends mini as I'm sick of it in the way, then I will decide what to do with what's left of mine *indifferent*

i'm in agreement with NIC lol hopefully may have a lil fun this weekend though woo hoo :oD

i do it cause for me its a learning curve doing a turbo mini rather than a NA one

plus they are a top bit of fun to drive when they're running well, there are'nt many cars that beat the mini in fun factor, i've been in and drove a few quick cars but i rate the mini & mx5 at the top!

ya cant let ya mini get ya down cause they always smile back arrrrrhhhh!

SKYLINES ARE LIKE CLITS, EVERY FLANGE SEEMS TO HAVE ONE: see this sticker on my silvia

the Search-section on this forum is blummin superb & simple to use, unlike some other forums, without the search-section & the help of this bunch of chaps on here i'll never be able to !!!Start the day with a 998cc turbo!!! :) i'm getting closer though!

I once had the idea of getting rid of the mini and my everyday car and get a modern quick car but there not as fun in my opinion. I pay £200 fully comp for a car that does sub 14 sec 1/4's and returns 35ish mpg and now costs very little in servicing. Then theres the element of surprise that makes me (and others) smile, just cant do that in something that was designed to be fast!

I agree Tony,

I had the same idea and was going to buy a quick, modern car. But the element of surprise keeps me hooked.

Subaru impreza's off roundabouts are the best!

In the 13's at last!.. Just

my original idea with the car was to make it quicker than an impreza for less money

Unfortunately by the time it was one the road and working properly id spent a fortune and you could pick up an impreza for £4k, d'oh
