HI, Going to start building my first turbo.*indifferent*

In a delema what to do!*surprised*

I have a complete MPI engine with 55k sat in my garage, loom, tank. rad etc. from 98 sports pack which rotted in to a pile of bits.

(LATE CARS ARE JUNK, TALK ABOUT HEAVY!!! NEVER AGAIN!!!!)

Also a 998 cooper 295 head that has had a skim at some time, bit rusty, as I left in my mums garage for two years and 2 core rad.

Which I was going to fit to my 998.

My present Mini 1981 HL, has a standard 998 never been messed with with 39k on geniune milage, but have a few problems with going from 4th to 3rd sometimes. Ajusted clutch which has helped a lot.

Fancy the mirrage manifolds (£350) & Renault turbo T2 as dont want to cut the bulk head. One of them Megasquirt ignition systems.

So the question is could I use the 1275mpi engine with the above binning the heavy weight MPI loom.

Or should I build a 998cc?

Would I be able to use the MPI rad with my 998 or should I use my 2core rad.

The Mpi tank should sort out my fueling and fuel pump.

So what do you lot out there think???

Mark.

Hi,
I'd go Mpi.
You'll get more power for the same amount of boost on the 1275 :)
You can fit the MPi rad to the 998,
The Mpi tank is ideal for turbo setups :)
The only downside to using the MPi engine is you can't machine the crank pulley to give you a trigger wheel, you'd have to spend on an SC or KAD one :(
Cheers,
Gavin :)

HI,

Why can't I machine the crank pulley??? to give me a trigger wheel, not using injection was going to convert to carb.

How much is the SC or KAD one please.

Thanks.

Hi,
If you look at the crank pulley you'll see the flat area isn't wide enough for the sensor. I think they're £100-150....
EDIT: You could try modifying the reluctor ring on the back of the flywheel. I was going to do this, but went with a different ECU that should work with the MPi reluctor.
Cheers,
Gavin :)

Sorry just to clear this up, are you going to be using fuel injection, or carb?

If you are planning on using a carb, you can pretty much forget using the mpi lump as i won't pass emptions tests for the MOT.

Hi,
It will pass if the car is old enough *wink*
