Does anyone know what that resistor type device is behind the radiator?

I thought it was the ignition ballst resistor but it has brown wires and a permanent 12v feed.

Mine just got very hot and started smoking!

Is it the dim-dip resistor to drop the voltage down from 12v to achieve the dim-dip sidelights?

Maybe, but the upper terminal has parted from the rest of it and the headlights still work OK in dip and main beam.

If it is the dim dip resistor, they will do. They just won't work in dim-dip (e.g. sidelights on, ign ket turned on)

That's odd then.

Why would it suddenly start smoking and disintegrate?

Hi,
All electrical equipment has smoke in it.
It's only when the smoke escapes that you get problems! *wink*
You may find the poxy orange relay under the dash has suffered the same fate!
Cheers,
Gavin :)

yup, iirc its the brown wire from the relay that goes to the dim-dip, at least thats the one i chopped back in the day when i had angel eyes to make em work properly.
