Hi lads,
Been away for a while.
Soon as i come back, i noticed another oil leak :(
It's coming between the 2 plates.
Ive used a gasket of course. and also used wellseal.
Why do you think this has happend.
Also, should i use a different gasket sealent ?

Cheers lads.

best to start from scratch. Unbolt everything, clean...and bolt back up.

Mitsi Evo 7, 911, Cossie. & all the chavs ...... won no problem

My guess is that its from the half moon seal between the engine and gearbox

These always leak especially if you have used that crappy one supplied with the gasket set and.... not trimmed it

i always use silicone here with the seal trimmed

Agree with Steve...did you trim the hal moon seal down before fitting?

In the past ive always used RTV sealant on this (without problems) but decided to try wellseal this time as ive heard its good stuff, hopefully all will be good!?

Ive never done it but..if you take the timing back plate off then you may be able get the old half moon seal out and put a new one in? *oh well*

Its worth double checking what is exactly leaking before attempting to remove this because if you can't swap it over like I just described then its engine out jobby!

Hmm,
Didn't know about trimming it *surprised*
Bugger.
As im doing this at my mums place in kent, taking the engine out is a no no. as ive been there long enough now.
I used well seal on the hard half moon seal. thought it be fine etc. but didn't trim it.
Anyway, what could i do now :(

Cheers..

if you used the seal i suggested the stiffer one there is NO! need to trim it and you have used sealent in this area

i doubt it will be from there
clean the area and run the engine to determine if its from there
first job dont panic!!!

have you used the correct backplate to block gasket i used the wrong one omce and it pissed out. the difference was the shape around the bolt for the alternator bracket slightly different shape but enough to leak when you get a gasket kit they sometimes come with both types and theres not much difference with a quick glance

Edited by Carl on 24th Feb, 2008.

no longer a series, but still 1.3 turbo.

You know what, i bloody hope it's that *tongue* coz if it is the half moon,(be shocked if it is) then im gonna blow it up *laughing* coz i looked under the car, and noticed my gay brother put the clevis pins in thick end first *surprised* as the tapered pins.
will that be a problem ?
I see there is 2 gaskets in th kit.
Black and light bluie colour.
which one do i use ?

Sorry not the clevis pin. the pin that holds the gearbox rod change onto the other rod part coming out of the gearbox.
cant remeber the name of the pin ? im crap at remebering names.
They have been put on wrong way round, as there tapperd pins.
so if i have to take the engine out, which i hope i dont.
then its gonna be harder to get out..

Cheers.

Roll pin is the word on the street...lol

Whack it in reverse and it puts it in a nice angle to get a punch on it to knock it out. *wink*

They are parallel so should knock out both ways.
