I'm just putting my Mirage manifold back on, up until now I have used standard 5/16UNC nuts on all studs. However, the the two studs that are one-in from the outside are a very tight fit; in fact you have to have the mainifold half off to even get them on. And then getting a spanner on to tighten them is impossible.

So I bought some new nuts that I use on the TT, the head is a 3/8 spanner star, but bugger me, these are even harder to tighten.

What have other people used for these tight nuts?

I hope that UNC is a typo.

Mine are all UNF.

haha, yes UNF, oops!

There's no way I could get a socket on, the stud pretty much hits the manifold. Maybe I should shorten the studs?

hmm ill try and remember to get a pic of mine when i go out to my dads later

thinking about it, i think i normally have to put them on a few turns first, and then finish them off with a long extension bar, but the sounds of this you cant do this

Sold the turbo and seeing what the C20XE can do!

i used some 6 sided k nutsd, then a spanner was easy enough to use i seem to remember.

Hi,
I'm using the standard MPi nuts with washer attached. Mind you my manifolds are upside down *surprised*
Cheers,
Gavin :)

just looked, at one end i'm using a cap screw, the other a 6 sided k nut.

using cap screws makes it easier in that position, especially if your inlet manifold is sloted so that you can near enough get everything done up then put the manifold in from the top.

wil, when i assembled mine, those studs were fouling the manifold, so I shortened them. Also those k nuts Nic was going to link you to are good. I think Merlin motorsport do them

I think shortening the studs is the solution. Maybe next time I take it off.

I made a special spanner this time to get it all tight.

Right ive got some pics

thanks to my waste of an afternoon trimming down my inlet manifold you can see the nuts from this angle:

And this is what the awkward ones in the middle look like when looking near the carb, perhaps my dodgy heatshield helps here?

Its not the ones on the centre branch I can't do, its the ones on the outside of the inlet flanges.

Cheers for the photo though, My nuts are not like that. And my manifold id much closer to the studs on the outside of the flange.

Ahh those ones

Thinking about it, i think i normally start them off with the manifold half on, then push it on a bit more, put the rest on, and then complete the tightening process

The nuts on the stud is supposed to be outside the flange.
