hi guys,
i am attempting to clean up my engine bay for my supercharger install, i have put all the electrics behind the dash and now i am looking to get rid of that huge brake servo. i notice that some of the 16v guys have to get rid of it to make room. i am wondering what are my options to replace it with?
Thanks

nothing?

It has a pretty small boost ratio - compared to almost every other car on the road... You could easilly remove it - maybe even make up an adaptor to re-locate your current master straight onto the bracket the servo bolts up to - will save messing about with a new servo / pipework.

Basically yes you could, would need some fabrication needed to mount a master cylinder to the servo bracket though.

Hi,
A servo doesn't make your brakes better, just easier to push the pedal down *wink*

Bin the servo and the master cylinder, and get a yellow band upright master cylinder, you will also need the brake pedal and the master cylinder base plate to match, a bit of brake line and job done. why bother keeping the bell crank, it too is heavy and takes uo too much room!

So when some joey comes on here about how his 16v turbo vauxhall is great compared to ours, he can be given the 'bird'...

sprocket ,will this give a similar feel to the servoed system ? do you change the pedal cos theres a different leverage ?

The pedal feel is actualy softer but the travel is a little longer, obviously. You need to change the pedal because the hole on the end for the clevis is too big. It would also apear that the pedal itself sits a little higher. You need to change the base plate because the hole for the master cylinder is the wrong size and in the wrong place, so makes it difficult to open out.

I like the feel, I think its more responsive than the servo.

Dont forget that all minis up to the late eighties had disc brakes and no servo *wink*

The servo does nothing for brake performance - its just for girls with weak legs, the mini even in sportspack form isn't what you'd call heavy and doesn't need a servo

bin the servo and gain some brake pedal "feel" and some more space!

If Carling made Mini engines
it would probably be like this one!

I wish I had not read this thread.

I can now see myself spending over £100 on a new master cylinder and a trip to the scrappies at the weekend.

Good advice. Don't buy a 2nd hand double brake master. They're always junk, and the rebuild kits are expensive!

Get a brand new one, don't skimp on brakes.
