I know this has been covered many times before but...

I'm going to run Champion RN7YC (equivalent to NGK BPR7ES) whilst I run the engine in then maybe go for something more 'racey' for the strip. I know Dave has tried Champion C57's has anyone tried C59's? Or there is also a race type Motorcraft plug that was used on the RS turbo escort which i believe was good.

Thoughts anyone?

It's all fun and games until someone gets hurt... Then it's hilarious!

I'm not sure that the RN7YC is equivalent to the BPR7ES.

There is an equivalent chart somewhere.

Edit: Champion 7s are equiv to NGK 8s. Champion 9s are equiv to NGK 7s.

Always used NGK. Found BP8's quite good. Still experimenting, and not much engine running yet.

Heres a good'n' for plugs.

Why have any thing else, you don't have any problems and your car is the fastest 5 porter, we shoud be asking you about spark plugs mate lol.

I run a cold plug in mine not sure of the number it's a bosch one, throuble is in this weather they keep fouling up. lol

I can't see the weather should really affect spark plug choice, your's are maybe too cold Matt.

I really had trouble on the RR with the standard Champion plugs and the 8Ess seemed to cure the problem, hence why I was surprised that they work in such high powered cars.

i don't get spark plugs at all! need to read up about them i think.
all i know is that when my girlfriend had her mini rolling roaded the other day, the operator changed the plugs to a ngk b5 something or other, i think he said it was a hotter plug, and also the electrode doesn't project in the the combustion chamber like most plugs, which he said is what a mini is supposed to have.

i've got 8's i think, anyway, the std escort RS turbo plug.
no fouling at all, even when they get real wet they dry out.

The cooler the plug the less the electrode sticks out, that's how it works.

All a plug is .... for the spark to jump across ignighting the fuel
now some engines run hotter than others in the combustion chambers

the manufacturers make hotter and cooler plugs to suite that particular engine wether it be tuned or not
now! if you chose a hotter plug than the engine likes it cant dissipate the heat out and burns the tip out (not good)

so you drop down to the next cooler plug

if the plugs too cool it cant burn the combustion debris off and it fouls up ..no spark across

as a rule of thumb on a mildly boosted tuned engine drop one plug grade cooler
on an engine which is doing a lot of boost drop 2 plug grades cooler
I personally run 2 grades cooler

that’s the “basics” really

Hi,
There's another type of NGK plug out now with a retracted electrode, but I can't remember the part number :(
Also those running dizzys may need a grade warmer than those with coil packs
Cheers,
Gavin :)

Hi all, try the race plug NGK B8EGV, very small electrode but works well, if you give the heaps that is with boost around 15 and up, pitty they don make a B7EGV, if the 8 fouls you have to go to the BPR7ES.

179hp on 12psi 1293cc of pure A series
