I finally got round to taking the engine out the metro today before I get rid the shell. As I dont have an engine crane I had to improvise with a block and tackle that was lying round, and whatever was strong enough to stand the engine weight.

This is what I came up with.

I feel a bit guilty destroying the metro, considering its given me a years good service and didn't cut me once taking it apart.

I think it deserves a turbo k-series lump, but thats a project for another car, another day.

if anyone want any parts let me know, as long as I can keep it a rolling shell.

Would love some bits from it, but it would end up only rolling from the back wheels lol

Improvisation at its best there mate.

Crack on,

These new modern turbos with their quick spool up time, would make the competition harder.

Rubicon you make a good point!

Well on friday the metro engine is going in the mini and the mini engine getting pulled apart for machining.

I have worked out how to get the engine out the mini without destroying the garage. I will have to move the flourescent light to enable me to get an acro prop under the 4x4 beam running across the garage that supports the roof! Then I can hang the block and tackle off the beam.

Me and a mate changed the mini engine for the metro engine yesterday. the mini engine is getting built into a road screamer and the metro has gone is for the tempory runabout.

6 hours it took us and we only couldnt finish due to not having 3 long bolts.

The beam in the garage also survived which was lucky!

mini engine out.

We did use a cloth to protect the front panel by the way.

nearly done

You need to change the starter motor solenoid braket for the mini one. The Metro one lets the main live cable get a bit close to the front panel.

In the 13's at last!.. Just

Mine never caused me any problems, but it just is a bit too close for comfort. only about 10mm clearance if I remember.

The metro was a knightsbridge.

I do have clearence with the battery postive, I won't mess about with it now as it is only in there for 2 months while a build a fast engine.
