As you know ive been trying to sort out my oil leak which is coming between the front plate and my belt drive cam cover.
well i put it all back with wellseal and left it over night.
turned over the engine few times and left it to see whats what.
checked it and oil coming from the same place.
so there must be a small cap between the 2 holes either side off the arrow.
so im thinking, is there some kind of silicone type of gasket sealant i could use instead of wellseal, as when tighening the nuts up quite abit, dont seem to close the small gap. so hoping the selicone gasket would help more.
You can see where the oil was coming from where the arrow is.

Thanks.

Hi,
Have you put a straight edge (steel rule) on that housing to see if it's flat?
Never tried it myself but a piece of wet n dry on top of a piece of glass should get it flat...
Cheers,
Gavin :)

Yeah its meant to do that,te hole allows oil to pass through to the other bearing face for the cam sprocket, it then drains through the gap around the crank. *wink*

So it's meant to come out from behind that that little plate with the 3 bolts ? i would of thought not, only the little on that plate hole.
Oh well..

Cheers anyways :)

Are you 100% it's leaking from this seal. I was once convinced I had this problem, but it was 1/2 moon seal behind the plate that had split.

I would put my money on the half moon seal. Which one do you have? They one with the reinforced wire through the middle or the one without?

If its the one without did you trim it to fit? As they are slightly too big.

DON's use that much gasket sealant next time. The goo will eventually clog your oilf pickup.

Oh well..

Its only a metal to metal contact so they are not necessarily going to seal, oil is being flung around inside the timing cover anyway by the sprockets and chain so that isn't an issue...sealing the timing chain cover to back plate and back plate to block is important though, as is the half moon seal on the crank.

Cheers anyways :)

I just put the cam belt back on, just to make sure it wasn't the half moon leaking.
Run the engine, and the half moon part was dry :)
the oil comes out quite abit from the cam part. i know oil comes out of course, but how much ?
Im gonna have to mess around with the cam cover to help it seal better, as it is abit pissed by 1m.
So im gonna have to use the silicone, as i really dont want to be taking that off for the forth time lol

Cheers ..

Fixed me oil leak :) just 1 more to go now lol
Made more holes and put some counter sunk bolts from the back, and ended up using RTV sealant :) done the job.

Cheers :)

It does also seem as you've mounted the camshaft retainer plate the wrong way.

Hi,
I'd get shut of that housing and fit one that's flat! Failing that get it ground flat by someone that skims heads?

I cant find the same cover as the one i have.
Do you know where i could get one from ?
I've looked around with no luck.
Can't see why it would just start leaking again when it's been fine :(
