Helped a friend take out and strip down his very tired 1275 A series tonight (unknown mileage/history) for a cheap rebuild, got as far as taking the flywheel off, but its proving it be a very tight one, so gave up on it for tonight.

We noticed when putting the puller on that there is loads (about 5 or 6mm) of give in the crank.

What do you guys think this will be? could the thrusts just be really worn? or dropped out?

It ran before we took it out, but sounded extremely poorly. My mates gutted now, as his cheap rebuild plans might be out the window, and not only that he thinks the engine might be fecked.

I feel a bit bad, as I kind of convinced him to start down this path...

Whats the worse endfloat you guys have had in the past?

Cheers

Joe

That kind of give...has it got thrusts in it?

sounds like the thrusts have fallen out - seen this once before. The crank ended up machining itself against the centre main cap.

As for feeling bad, if the engine had this amount of end float, I don't think there would have been any choice soon

well, bit of an update, the flywheel proved very (very very) stubborn, so the engines just been sat till last night used my new hydraullic puller and was exceedingly smug when it popped off after just a few turns :)

bad news is it is the thrusts that had dropped out, found 1 intact in the bottom of the box, another one a little mangled etc so worse case scenario

the crank is fecked, but the block doesnt appear to be that bad, and might be reusable, ill get some pics up for your opinions soon

the thrusts that we have found dont look very worn though?
why would they fall out of the centre main?

dont want to put it all back together and find it drops them again...

cheers
