it wont last at all. all depends on the spring, take a look at wil's post about clutches.

A long time ago i had a std metro turbo in my mini, maybe 6-7years ago, and put a brand new clutch in it. It slipped from day one at 3.5K on 7psi. Looking back i could of had a dabble at different springs but i had a non verto with orange diapraghm that did the job.

As Iain says. We know a new one isn't really up to it, so with a pretty shagged one you've no chance.

I know, lol, I just want to get on. The prob I have is I dont have the money at the moment to buy the parts for a non verto setup, and if I did I would want to run it with pre engaged starter.

I think I have tucked away somwhere a preverto clutch assembly out of an old 998 engine, can I purchase this http://www.minispares.com/Product.aspx?pid=37926 fit it with an orange diaphram, and un uprated plate?
How hard is it to sway ring gear? Is it a case of cutting the old off and fitting the new? (flywheel in freezer and ring gear in the oven? would this be better over the verto set up? Do I have to swap slave cylinders?
Cheers

If you have access to a preverto then go for it.. dont forget the wok, slave cylinder and hydraulic hose as well. You may want to reserch the orange/grey pressure plate choice and decide which you want to go to, I can never remember which ones stronger of the two..

Yes, that ring-gear is OK, though I have never tried to do it myself, gave it to the machine shop with the rest of the engine..

the ring snap is easy, it come of and on for image as a bearing in a gearbox,
but 28 for a ring?? , just reuse your and save that money for a decent plate, the apracing rally one is very good

Hi,
Just bang a new plate in it for now, some of the new verto covers have poor springs.
It's not the right way to do it, but it'll be cheap you may have to keep the boost down to 10 psi though.
How about building a Robert clutch, that'll do the job and not cost a lot :)
Cheers,
Gavin :)

grey is strong than orange, i just used orange as it was what i had and i wasnt using a lot of boost, i've got a grey and a paddle plate in there at the minute.

Is there any difference between the woks other than the clutch arm?

A clutch is an easy job even with the engine in (as long as you miss out the fiddly bolt of the wok).

It's worth the risk I reckon, as long as you are prepared to change it.

No point spending money on a ring gear when you could save and get the proper stuff.

someone might even have a better plate they could donate.

Right then, gonna take the risk and just trow a new plate in it, if that fails I think I can just about scrape the funds together for a pre verto set up, Eeek!

Bat, what is a Robert clutch?

Hi,
It's a verto clutch with an extra spring plate *wink* You should find it on a search.
Cheers,
Gavin :)
