After a misshap over easter i have killed my n/a engine that had a long term eaton conversion planned for.

I have been looking for another engine and come across a turbo 1275 totally standard engine. before i go on what sort of price is good for an engine like this?

anyway, if i get this engine i was thinking of straight away getting the mirage manifold kit (so i dont have to fit the turbo box) and at the same time getting the daddy mirage "MAT25S2 hybrid T25 Turbo".

Along with that a new head say a morspeed booster high flow 3, 1.5 full roller rockers and an intercooler.

How does all that sound? Am i going to big to quickly with the turbo and be better off going for a smaller one? Should I look at a cam change as well? or if i do get that turbo what other bits should I be looking at.

The reason for wanting to do it all at once is so that I can do all the work on the bench before dropping the engine in, saving having to remove it again for more upgrades.

Opinions and suggestions please, and sorry for the 20 questions!

If you dont want to have the engine out again, then diff and drop gears have got to be a top priority. Along with a good cam and a bottom end that is up to the job.

Cylinder heads, turbos rockers etc can all be swapped about with the engine in place.

In the 13's at last!.. Just

if you're buying a new turbo, manifold and head, then theres no point paying lots for a turbo engine, as its not much different to a non turbo on the inside.

fair point,

i have been looking at the MED gearbox 1 option already for my previous engine so do we think that would suffice.

what would you suggest is a "good cam" and bottom end to go for?

agreed the turbo etc is nice and easy to change once the engine is in situ but the mirage manifold kit would need to be a priority to fit the engine as i would prefer not to cut the bulkhead, thats the only reason i thought about getting a turbo from them at the same time.

First strip down your engine and see what state it's in. Then you'll avoid putting nice new heads/turbos and an engine that won't last.

Hi,
First start at the beginning....
What do you want from the engine? Daily drive or all out race...?
What sort of power output are you aiming for?
Bottom end to base it on... Anything 1275 A+ will do as you'll be rebuilding it anyway...
Cheers,
Gavin :)

cheers for all the help so far guys.

right, slight change of direction but still on topic.

got a second pair of eyes round thisarvo to look at the engine i already have, looks like the block itself is fine but the gearbox suffered, a few teeth on various gear wheels are damaged, so all in all i have the engine and no longer looking for another.

what am i looking for....basically all out racer, but i wont be racing it, if that makes sense. i want a stupidly quick road car that i will frequently visit santa pod with, at present im not looking to take it on track but you never know.

power output, again, as much as i can get without getting silly on prices. i have never built a turbo a series so not 100% on final costs for x bhp output.

i am totally commited to doing as much if not all the work on my own so i am looking to start 1275 as i cannot bore the block etc, plus i think there is something "nostalgic" (if thats the right word) about the 1275 block and squeezing so much power out of it. lets say i was to get the T25 hybrid from mirage and wanted to spec the engine around that, maybe thats easier?

Hi,
I'd go with an Avonbar Ph2 cam in that case, use the recommended rocker ratio for that cam.
Benross should do you a good deal on a head *wink*
You'll need straight cut everything for the g/box + a 4 pin diff.
Empty your wallet now *wink*
Cheers,
Gavin :)

Right then chaps, I'm sure you will all revel in this one...I would like you to spec me an ideal engine with a budget of £2500 max! The target is max bhp for the £'s. and where to buy the bits from.

Consider that all i have is a gearbox case, megajolt etc and a non turbo HIF44 and nothing more.

I will not be cutting the bulkhead so a mirage or other manifold option is required.

I did PM Turbo Hogster about a s/c box but no reply as he's a busy man.

Everyone loves spending someone elses money :) .....

First mini turbo to get in the 12's & site perv

Herefordshire

Ive had both of the mirage turbos

If you want it for very fast road use go for the smaller hybrid one

Its an AWESOME road turbo, there is no lag with it what so ever. The larger one takes away some of the fun of always having power whenever you boot it, and gets annoying as it tries to spool up as you trundle along at the speed limit

I think i got 191 bananas on the vmax rollers with this turbo so its not going to limit your power.
Pick your head, cam, pistons, and intercooler right and you wont go wrong

But spend your money on a decent bottom end and cam, the rest can be bolted on around it
