Hi there

soon to be at the stage of building my gearbox. Straight cut everything. i'm stuck between the above 2 gear kits. Jack knight seem to be very popular however a friend of mine who has a rally mini blew a jk gearbox up on his 3rd race and now swears by quaiffe. any suggestions or experienced users please give me your advice. i wish to run around 180hp at the engine.

thanks

I bet my first wank came quicker than your first mini turbo

These new modern turbos with their quick spool up time, would make the competition harder.

Resident Cylinder Head Modifier

Mitsi Evo 7, 911, Cossie. & all the chavs ...... won no problem

the minispares clubman set is £309 gives you the right ratios and is...... "well proven!" .........i know its not a dog box but......have a think about it

oh then theres £70 worth of bearings
and a £155 x pin diff all hard to beat for the money

Hi,
You could buy the MS kit and get it cryo treated and still be £500 better off!

First mini turbo to get in the 12's & site perv

Herefordshire

Ive got the jack knight stuff too, but theyre such a pain in the ass to deal with when you need replacement bits, that id say go for minispares or quaife depending on wht you want to spend

TBH go for the minispares and spend the money else where

just to know, I used a metro challenge gearkit, it seemed to have larger teeth than any others , though it was the same as a jkd, does this make an improvement in wear, and does the minispares kit have the same teeth?
thanks

Challenge gearsets were made by JK & TranX according to the previous owner/builder of my car. TranX have slighty wider gears. It was only when I took the box to Avonbar, and he confirmed that it wasn't JK that I started asking questions.
God knows how to get spares, as TranX don't make them anymore. :(

I'll have to look into that, just in case my gearbox decides to die in the future. :)
