I was planning to run the usual 1275 engine breathers (charcoal canisters) one one the timing cover, and the one on the transfere casing. The problem Im having is the one on the transmission casing is right in the way of evrything, I was hoping to use one of these

to give me the little space I need but, I have very little luck finding one so far. Can anyone see a problem with me making a mating flange (as per original breather) with a 1/2" stub poking out, and connect this to one of those little K&N style items? Will this be ok?
Thanks
Shane

Hi,
I'd say not as there's a coarse wire wool type stuff inside to trap the oil and let the vapour out.
There's nothing stopping you modifying an older type one that stand upright or engine the one off the tappet chest of a small bore engine.

Gavin :)

All the spare ones I have are powder coated, lol. The last time I cut on about and welded it, i set it on fire, oops. But if I can dig one out i may try again.
Cheers

Hi,
Lay off the smokes *wink*
Although if you got the blow torch out you could as they're brazed together.
Cheers,
Gavin :)

I thought that the canisters were flame traps and are only necessary of you are pluming the breathers into the carb.

I know I have no canisters on either of my cars, both just feed straght into carch tanks (or in one case an empty strawberry bubblebath bottle, Mmmmm sweeeet).

I just cut a wedge out of the pipe on the standard Metro breather, bent it over and re-welded it.

I thought you could run straight in to a catch tank but they advice baffleing the take off to keep the oil splash in the engine rather then filling up the catch tank.

If you run your pipes sensibly you won't get excessive oil in the catch tank. I don't.

A good trick is to run the transfer cas to the rocker box and then run the rocker box to the catch tank.

the drops can through up a fair bit of oil, this steup catches it in the rocker cover (ish)

i need to sort mine out! when i stop it drips oil everywere!

its because the crankcase breather has been modded so it has a 25mm exit rather than the standerd 13mm exit. and it hasent got the container on to catch the oil! im just going to get a k&n breather filter thing.
the flywheel breather dosent leave that much oil all over the place as it has one of these containers on it.
i think that should solve the problem??
