MOT today *happy*
Problem is. my hazard light switch has desided to play up.
At times it only flashes the front and back driver side lights.
But then works normal when it whats to.
I Cleaned it up etc, but still plays up with it's mind of it's own.
What i want to know is. if it desided to do that while coming Through MOT, would they fail it ? or shall i just tell them i just need to get a new switch just incase it desides to play up on me ?

Cheers lads..
Fingers Crossed :)

Simple answer, yes, it must work.
http://www.motuk.co.uk/manual_150.htm
Even if the vehicle is old enough not for it to be required, if it is fitted, it must work !!!

Phone the MOT station and check with them first, but I'm pretty sure it's on the list of things that can fail but you get a free retest of just that item if you bring it back by 4pm the next day.
At least you'll see if anything else is wrong that way.

First mini turbo to get in the 12's & site perv

Herefordshire

damn it

My mate had a crx turbo that we were taking for an mot, that morning the horn packed up

so in a rush i took the horn off my mini, bolted it in, ran a wiredown the wing through the door seal and with a crappy switch inside the car

The assistant at the mot station went to drive it in and was messing around, he drove at the tester and honked the usual horn button at him----amazingly it worked!!!

You could of been lucky with your hazzards

My hazzards haven't worked since 2003 and I've passed every MOT since. Plus I finaly got failed for my arch-less reverse rims after about 6 years.

it can fail on an excessive oil leak, and yes you do get a free retest if brought back within 10 days. says on the bottom of the failure sheet.

Our MOT's are one of the strictest around now.....

I have never been in a car were they have tested hazard lights though. Although strictly speaking, they should work.

Same with front fogs. Ive never been asked to prove these work.

They have always checked all other lighting though

Hi,
Front fogs or spots are not an MOT requirement, in the UK at least *wink*

Yes you do...
You get a free "re-test" on a whole list of minor items if you bring it back by the end of the next working day - they only have to "re-test" the failed minor item.
Hazards are one of them (I've checked since my earlier post).
On bigger things the rules are more complicated (like letting them repair it) but for a defined list of minor items, just take it back next day for free.

The joke with the wide wheels was when I changed them to skinnys and did the restest the guy didn't have a clue why I was failed the first time. "I think the first guy was a bit tough on you, I would of passed them".

Thankfully the guy who works in the one in Coleraine with the hydrolic arms has retired. He crushed my sills with his bare hands. They don't ever check my horn either and not always the washers.

If lights are fitted to a car, then legally, they MUST work.
