Aldershot (we are top of the league, say we are...)

Hi all

Got the metro turbo running at 7psi accross the whole rev range ( by adjusting actuator), with a dump valve, k&n filter and a "2 single box maniflow exhaust system. I am running with a standard unmodified BDD carb needle and have been advised that i should have it checked at a rolling road to make sure that it is not leaning out. 1st of all do you think this is totally necessary given that im only running 7psi? Also can anyone reccomend anywhere near Aldershot and what sort of price should i be looking to pay? There is a japanese tuning place down the road that has a rolling road i assume they could tell me if its running lean but not sure if they would be able to make needle adjustments *indifferent*.

Any help much appreciated

Hi,
Yes I'd always get it checked, cheaper then a melted engine, and there may be more power to be found *wink*
If you're running lead additive, check with the RR that it'll be ok for their equipment.
Cheers,
Gavin :)

Cheers Gavin

I assume any rolling road can tell you if its running lean/rich then? Would be nice to take it somewhere that is experienced with the A-series who can make the adjustments there and then.

Hi,
Yeah they should be able to. Avonbar do an 8spi needle, but there's no saying it would be right for your car.
Cheers,
Gavin :)

Other alternative is to get a wideband lambda installed and then you can monitor the air fuel ratio yourself and decide if it is lean or not. Cost not much more than a couple of sessions on the rolling road.
Mine is one of the best things I've ever bought, really useful.

I take it you then mount this anywhere in the exhaust somewhere engine side of a box?

same one as i've got and worth every penny, probably the best thing i've bought apart from the T2.

my sensor is welded into the link pipe by the gear linkage so the wires can come up into the car easily.

£99 starting bid is a steal, that gauge really has come down in price and is a decent bit of kit.

Hi,
Don't use any leaded fuel or lead additive with one, you'll kill it!

have had a chat with the local rolling road and they can do me and quick session which will moniter the mixture for £45 but they dont have the knowledge for needle profiling. Do you think given my specifications that any modifications to the needle will be necessary?

Unfortunately the only way to find out is to check.

On one hand it may be close, as you are only running 7psi.

On the other hand it may be lean as you have replaced the air filter and exhaust thus improving gas flow in and out of the engine.

On the third hand (LOL) what's to say it was correct in the first place before you modified it?

RR is the only way to know for sure.
