Hi all

I'm looking to book MOT soon. I am fairly happy that everything is ok except for the rear tyres. The tyres have only seen a couple of thousand miles so tread is good, however where I have run the rear of the car so low it occasionally fouled the wheel arch and has therefore put a groove mark in each rear tyre. The groove doesn't go anywhere near as deep as the tread but there is a visible 1 inch band going round each tyre. Will this fail the MOT?

Cheers
Rich

You could whack the spare on. Then that gets round any question of whether its dangerous or not. (assuming the spare is decent that is)

1.6mm over 1/3 of the tire.

as long as the band is not dangerously low, ie no more tread left around the band and starting to wear down past that you should be fine.

but then again if the MOT monkey decided he wants to be a tosser and fails it state to him that the tire is not dangerous, there are no gashes in the tire, there is more than 1.6mm of tread over 66% of the tire and there are no wire bands exposed so give me a pass cert *happy*

Hi,
I'd say it would be an advise job if the cords aren't exposed.
Cheers,
Gavin :)
