Right, i set up the carb the best i could, not got a colourtune kit yet tho so its just rough.

Got a few problems though and im a bit worried now.

It idles fine, and revs alright for a while, but then after a while it just seems to stutter and likes to backfire a lot. Is it screwed?

Will i just have to wait til its set up properly and electrics/timing have been checked? or should i be worrying now?

Iv heard backfiring is bad...:(

have you got a coolent leak from your rad??? mine sounded a bit like that when it was overfueling, alot

get the plugs out, should give you a rough idea as to whats going on.

if its running so rich that its running badly then you should be able to smell it from the exhaust.. even see it? also as ric said, plugs are a good indication:)

mine was doing that when it was running to lean, and if you have a cammed engine colour tune is no good. i brought one the other day shockin that bad you can have mine for the fact has to run rich or doesn't run

That's the difficult thing to tell, too rich or lean will make it run like that.
The smell of fuel out the exhaust or black plugs will be the give away though

Zeemax Power, Its just a standard engine so im assuming colourtune would be fine?

Yeah, there was a smell of fuel so im assuming its too rich. Im going to get a colourtune and a timing gun for when i next go home and try set it up the best i can.

I had a fiddle this morning before i left and its running a fair bit better but i cant do anything until iv got the right kit.:(

sounds like its a fuelling issue ? what size pipes did you use from tank to reg ? and what pump was it ?

I used 8mm ID pipes from and back to the tank. Its an Spi tank with the Spi Pump.

Right, im going to try get a colourtune kit, i know they are not ideal but i am in a tricky situation.

I cant get to a rolling road any other way than driving the car there.

I have to get it set up so i can drive it to an mot then take it to the rolling road.

Any suggestions what i should do guys?

My plan is get it running reasonably ok with colourtune and get the timing set. Then get it mot'd and only drive it carefully to the rolling road to get set up properly.
