Somewhere around Swindon

Bought a canon 450D yesterday
Cant say the buying experiance was great, i went to my local Canon/pentax dealer as i could not make up my mind and anything £500+ is a big financial commitment for me, after handling and looking at the sony 350, pentax 20d and the canon 40d and 450d i settled on the 450, problem i had was that they had just had a batch of 8 come in (they rang me as i was on a list) but in the 24hrs it took me to get in to the shop all 8 had gone and they did not know when they would have some more in, as i am going on holiday in 10 days i thought i would look at another shop, now i personally may be a bit mad but i prefer to pay a little extra and shop in real shops as i feel the internet has killed off many shops in the area, anyway i went to jessops a short walk away, jessops had them in stock but a full £60 more expensive than the canon dealer, i explained that they were more expensive and pointed out the price match label in one of the cabinets, the assistant could not have been less interested and said thats why my local canon dealer had sold out therefore she did not need to price match if they were the only ones with it in stock, i left more because of the attitude than the price hike, this may sound a bit anal and contradict what ive written but i ended up buying online as they had garanteed stock and delivery date, ive saved quite a bit over my canon dealer but still would have prefered to buy from them

When jessops fold i am sure they will blame it on the internet rather than poor service, i know its hard for shops to compete with the net, however there are many people like me who prefer shopping at real shops, prefer keeping local community shops open, but if you have a price match should you not stick to it? this is not the first time i have had problems with jessops, when i was in collage i used to order my agfa film and paper though them and the amout of times i got dicked around was unreal

to be fair my jessops are ok, its like anything, get one decent person working there and it makes the difference!

i thought jessops price match also ran to internet purchases as well from what i remember?

Completely agree with the sentiment of your last paragraph. We were shocked recently in PC World doing a recky for this laptop. We saw rude staff being incredibly incompetant and downright unhelpful to another couple. No wonder they've declared worst profits recently...

Im a network manager and it winds me up something rotten when I go in PC World and see the naff advice they give. The fact that they think norton is a good antivirus proves it. Let our friend weebl demonstrate this fact

Hi,
I bought my camera from Jessops. I ordered it online to get a better price then picked it up from the local shop.
I saved about £60 and didn't have to wait for it to turn up.
Staff were ok, other than trying to sell me memory cards and batteries to go with it.

i dont touch jessops annoying company.

you work in a camera shop how can you not know what someone is on about when they get asked.

"can i see your range of cokin filters please"

so i use a camera shop a little one where the guy behind the desk is actually interested in it as a hobby.

Awful customer service from the person you spoke to mate - price match policies usually state that they will match any retail outlet - matching web prices isnt really possible for most shops but if I had turned down a sale like that at work I would have had a right bollocking
