Got the car running, it doesnt smoke at idle or when on boost, but if it is left to idle for a little while then revved it kicks out a huge plume of smoke, im guessing the turbo is goosed, but im hoping im wrong! See the clip attached.

any thoughts
Shane

Hi,
Not too bad at all :) Usually smoking after a long idling period is down to guides. I certainly wouldn't worry about it at the moment though!

Gavin :)

Thank god for that!!! It only smokes when its been sat idling, I was really getting worried that it was the turbo goosed, went for a little hack in it this eve and with 10psi boost there was no smoke or smoke initially when left to idle. Ive not noticed any on overun.
Cheers guys

I was just about to say "give it a run and get it all properly hot and see what happens" but it sounds like you've done that and all is OK.

Well, after then run, left it to idle and the smoke started again. If it is the guides, its not a problem as Steve has posted me one of his works of art (head) Im away working monday and tuesday so hoping it will be here to fit late part of the week, my only concern is if it is the turbo getting one in a hurry, Ive the car booked in for rolling road setup on the 6th, panic! lol

Took the head off today in prep for the arrival of the new one, as was supprised what I found. there was trace of oil in the boost hoses at all except a tiny smudge in the 90 bend to the compressoer housing. ther was a tiny spot in the inlet manifold where the locating rings usually sit. when the head came off bore 4,3,2 had oil sitting in the dish of the piston, and the valves was coaked from where I believe it has been burnt, no1 was clean and dry. Pics should show the oil, not great as only had my phone with me. Are these usually the systoms of shot valve guides/ seals?

shane if you look at the gt17.. thread ,youll see i had exactly the same thing , it was the guide seals blowing off the ex valves ,and letting neat oil run into the hamber , a new set of guides and positive sprung seals fixed it completely.

If thats the case then Robert then im just glad its not the turbo! The head from steve will hopefully be here mid week so its not an issue, as this one is going off to him as an exchange.
