speedo not working since new engine!

hi

iv recently fitted a 1380 lump to my mini and the speedo dosen't work.
iv changed the speedo drive and the metal bit it sits in as i first thought the other one was getting stuck in it as it was a bit tight.
but it still only goes up to 30mph and i know im going faster than that! lol
the speedo worked fine with my old 998 lump in so i dont htink its the actal speedo.

any ideas to fix the problem would be great! :)

Is the cable properly located in the speed drive before you tighten the retaining ring?

1/4mile in 13.2sec @ 111 terminal on 15psi

Did you check the speedo drive ratios? the new engine may have a different drive ratio and that coupled with a different speedo ratio than its designed for could cause a big difference in the readings..

Does the needle bounce a bit? When mine wasn't screwed in right the cable would slip every few turns but you can tell this because it bounces around.

i always had a problem with my speedo not working
It turned out it was the plastic gear on the end of the speedo drive, lots of threadlock and its ok now

what put thread lock in the end of it were the cable goes??

ill have to have another look at the weekend.

no, take off that bit that the cable screws onto (3/8ths) and then pull out the shaft

ok an update

the clock now stays at 30mph even if the car is parked up!! i left it and it is still saying 30mph even though it turned off! lol
do you think the speedo is broken? if it is then it is a bit strange that its broken now!

Could be, if the inner part of the cable has been pushing into the back of the speedo too far it can damage the mag assy inside :(
