Have a hunt around using google, i was browsing this recently and came up with a few chemical suppliers in the uk.

but you're looking at 205litre drums with expensive postage.... so i'm sticking with pump fuel!

Can't you get it at the local paint supply store? Around here we can buy it by the gallon... $9-12/gal

That can be dangerous stuff. My friend.

Its gas is heavier than air. E.g. so sinks to the ground and just waits to be ignited.

Are you mixing it with pump fuel.? Creates good power.

But mapped ignition is recommended.

I learnt the hard way with this stuff. E.g. Destroyed at least one engine.

P.S. Sorry if i'm teaching you to suck eggs.

Lol yeah i'm using omex ignition management, I only live down the road from trimite the big paint suppliers so might pop down there and see what i can lay my hands on.
I've also seen on the net that you can blend methanol with petrol? Theres a place in high wycome that makes this so i might experiment with that or try it with my water injection

I blended it with BP100R fuel. And that did work well.

Also don't stand to close to the back of your car on idle. It'll make your eye's water. *wink*

Engine temps can run a bit high to.

Enjoy.

Step into the world of chemicals and step into the world of high purity=high £££. What you need is some filthy cheap stuff. Which is where your local paint shop suppliers is your friend. You have toluene = methyl benzene= C6H5-CH3 and Xylene=di-methyl benzene C6H4-(CH3)2. Both have good octane numbers and both combined are what we know as cellulose thinners. You don't want the expensive clear stuff, you want stuff with a colour taint to it aka brush thinners. This is cheap and not worth worrying about the impurities. Run it. Thing is that notice the smell of celly thinners and modern unleaded.....connection??? yep. Anyway, if you are leading fuel, benzene derivatives are called "aromatics" and aromatic compounds fuck up lead response. So if you are leading fuel up to make avgas, you want as little aromatics in there as you can get, so that means 95 over 97 octane and most certainly no paint thinners.

If you can find a source for brush thinners in a huge amount, go for it, it's racing fuel for about 3/4 the price.

Avoid the little tins of it, they are very pricey.

If you do look at the the little tins of it and think "hmmmm" go to your chemical suppliers and get a load of very expensive 172 MON di-cyclopentadiene. It might just make a better octane booster.

I'd rather lead the fuckery out of 95 octane fuel.

If you have access to a chemical supplier near you and your car doesn't do that much milage, you can brew some super fuel for the price of normal fuel but an altered engine.

I reckon looking at running an engine on straight propane (not dual fuel) is the way to go. You can run quite high boosts..............

anyway

Bugger off, I'm getting there.

Tetraboost is the shizzle.

It is possible to make but you need to be determined. You need to make an alloy of sodium and lead!!!! and then you react it with ethyl-chloride giving you sodium chloride and tetraethyl lead. You then need to de-salt it by washing with water and separating the oily stuff from the watery stuff. Keep the oily stuff. tetraethyl lead then burns in fuel and makes all kinds of horrible lead componds which shite up your valves and chambers. You need to add a scavenger for that stuff which is ethylene dibromide. You make this by reacting ethylene (ethene) with bromine. Simple enough to do....

You can make explosions and there are quite a lot of opportunities for burning/poisoning yourself.

I would buy tetraboost but it is faaaakin expensive. I wouldn't waste my money on that or any other stuff. If I did though, I would rate tetraboost as the best stuff. I think you get a better response leading 95 than you do 97.

Do some google searching for chemical surplus and things like that and you can probably get allsorts on the cheap.

If I remember rightly, there is a place oop north which makes TEL for allover the world. I'd speak to them. Don't email, they don't get back to you.

If you can get a lot of TEL to sort of throw it around a bit, your best bet is to add about 4cc to 1L of 95 unleaded and then a further 1.5cc of Methyl Aniline (which is horrible toxic stuff). Again, see if you can get out of date or surplus.

If anyone asks, you are making racing fuel for a racing car.

I would be betting my bottom dollar that TBST are gettiong their TEL from a major supplier. Perhaps even abroad.

You need to look there also.

Bugger off, I'm getting there.

Yes, they knacker them in no time.

Shame really.

If you're doing that, you want to run celly thinners with as much dicyclopentadiene as you can afford.

Have a see what you can find out about Methyl-tertiarybutyl-ether MTBE. Interesting stuff if you are going the leaded route.

I reckon fuel is perhaps the most important part of the equation.

Bugger off, I'm getting there.

Can't add anything to the chemical side of things...

but to answer si p's question... my car pinks on 10psi with 95RON fuel, but is absolutely fine on 98/99RON.
