Hello chaps,

Anyone know what wires are needed to get the brake lights working? I have plugged in the two wires into the in-line thingy on the brake line on the engine bay, but have no idea what wires go onto the little switch on the brake pedal, or if it's even needed. Can't see any spare wires dangling in the right place for that..

Any advice would be great, haynes wiring diagrams make me die a little inside.

Somewhere around Swindon

yep just the two wires as long as the rest of the loom is good

dont forget its a pressure switch so bleeding brakes may help

Sold the turbo and seeing what the C20XE can do!

Near Lincoln

basically its just power on to the switch, then from the switch to the brake lights, obviously one side earthed. have you put the earth strap on in the boot for the light cluster?

The rear lights work, so I guess thats a yes for the earth, Iain.
Brakes are bled. I'll try touching them together. :)

to be honest mate if you have the pedal switch, just use that instead and extend the wires type thing. much more reliable.

First test with a test light the two wires going to the brake switch (hydraulic or mechanical, whatever yours is). One of the 2 should hold 12v this is the 12v feed from the fuse box, the other wire is the wire that connects to your brake light globes. So in reality, If you have a 12v feed and have temporarily touched the 2 wires together you should have 12v at the brake lights. If not then test for continuity between the switch wire and the brake lights and find the missing link! VOILA! Hope this helps. Adriano

Hi,
You should have a green wire going to the switch, this is a 12v ignition feed from the fusebox.
The other wire going to the switch is green with a purple stripe. This is the feed to the brake lights.
There's a clump of bullet connections on the bulkhead by the wiper motor, the brake light wire (Grn/Purp) can be found here and can suffer with a poor connection at this point.
Cheers,
Gavin :)

Did I not read somewhere you are re-shelling? Sounds as if you have two brake light switches? one hydraulic (brake line), one mechanical (pedal).

You only need one, what loom are you using?

Can't remember what wiring loom we used, 90's one iirc

You should only have the wires at the pedal then, unless you have cut and shut two looms. Sounds as if you can ignore the switch on the brake line - is there wiring at this point?

As people have already suggested, shorting the switch wires will put the lights on - a good test just 'incase' the switch is duff.
