Hi all

I have noticed just recently that when the "dump valve" dumps, I get a strong wiff of petrol at the same time. Is this normal??

Cheers
Rich

I have had a similar thing, my dump valve (a bailey piston one) jammed, I opened it up and the thing was full of petrol.

I assume you are running a standard metro setup with the dv on the plenum?

My guess is that it is over fuelling. Certainly what mine is doing at the moment.

How could over fuelling be a problem when the Dv is before the carb?

that's a good point... all my hoses stink of petrol as well. Something definitely wrong there...

Must be a combination of issues in my case then as it has recently started overfuelling like a bastard. New plugs were sooty and black within 30 secs of being run in the car.

Issue with fuel pressure?

Yes, but when the butterfly is snapped closed the jet is on the side of the DV. This means that the chance of fuel ending up in the plenum and hence the DV is likely.

The other thing is that the fuel found in DVs is mainly on the signal side i.e. fuel from the inlet manifold. This can slowly find its way up the hose.

It may therefore be that the DV is full of fuel, collected from the signal hose connected to the inlet manifold, this is then leaking past when the DV is opened, hence the smell of fuel.

Hi,
As Wil says the air rushing out of the dump valve will draw fuel out with it *surprised*
Cheers,
Gavin :)
