Brilliant.

As a Transit based camper owner, I can relate to that.

The going rate for a new decent transit camper from a manufacturer is £30k upwards.

So he is saving himself a load of cash by doing it himself.

I've mentioned this before but I would love to recess the firewall on something like this and shoehorn in a nice premium brand turbo diesel V8. 300 bananas and say 500 curleywhirlies should give it a decent turn of speed and still get 35+ MPG.

Mine has the 2.4TDi which is a proper van engine.

I was looking at a new motorhome the other week and it had a TDCi with a six speed box - seemed more like a stroked car engine to me.

Think weve got the same as yours jas.
I find the diff quite noisy on them.
Wouldve preferred the TDi.

Back to topic, If i had those resources it wouldnt be a transit, Itd be a good GMC A-team van.

2.5di is pretty much bomb proof. If a cam belt goes, generally only fooks the rockers. New ford stuff....good for the bin.

Don't bloody believe it! Gearbox died this morning! Stuck in first gear! Took the gear stick out, selector inside box completely jammed up. :(

50/50 about scrapping it. Its a solid shell, so problably get another box. Might change the axle while I'm at it, its so low geared. Get a later axle & move the leaf spring mounts.

Got all gears. :) It was in 1st gear, but the gear lever was in 3rd on the selector. So there was no way of getting back into neutral. Very odd.
If you look at the pic, the rear wheels sit in. The later wider axle is much more stable, especially on motorways etc.

Well this guy's got a lot more balls than most restorers I know.

Jason I was wondering recently.Would a Mini fit in the back of an LWB transit? Or are the rear doors too narrow?Maybe with the tailgate option?

Warning:Stig in Training

Hi,
Yes they do and I've got a gizmo to do it. It's got ramps and a winch and when get it home you can put an extra set of legs under it and your whole car is 4ft up in the air :)
Best thing I ever bought off E bay!
Cheers,
Gavin :)

Hi,
Think you'll need a LWB tranny though?

The blue bit is the van part with the plain steel the extension. The ramps hook on the angle at the front edges, winch on a cross brace at the far end.
The van part bolts into the holes for the factory fitted lashing points.
Cheers,
Gavin :)
