ive currently got a set of 12s fitted and have ordered some 10s. they are now at the body shop and they are telling me that as they are clad in 165 70s the are the same size as my 165 55 12s i already have! i wanted to get the car as low as poss and have been told the 10s are also better far traction and handling. should i keep them or send them back? ive also got a set of cooper s calipers to fit with them! feature=mhum |

Have a search and read up, this debate has been covered many times. In essence it is each to their own.

12's are for people with questionable sexuality, has sod all to do with handling

10's offer less grip but better handling. 13" offer more grip but worse handling. 12" are somewhere in-between. I find all that a little contradictive
If you have good grip you have good handling, if you have poor grip you have poor handling Having good grip and poor handling is the same as having poor grip and good handling, No? You are right however about setting up the supension for the wheel in use, but all things equal, the 13s handle better than the 10s on track. If you are talking about handling on the great British roads, then the 10s may well be better off as there is more cusion in the tyre. Its a very subjective subject It all depends what you want and how you use your car.

If you have good grip you have good handling, if you have poor grip you have poor handling Not really, grip and handling at two totally different things. For example I had a Fiat X1-9 that had totally rubbish tyres on, the grip was terrible, but it handled beautifully, perfectly balanced. Changed the tyres and the grip was increased massively, but the balance was gone, it handled worse and was harder to drive and less fun. Same with the TT at one point, you can't get more grip than we had with 7" R25A compound tyres, but it was all over the shop, understeer one minute, overstere the next, no balance whatsoever. I personally think 10s look a bit gay and you compromise the ultimate braking, but if you want the period look there is no other choice. 12s are a great compromise as tyres are cheap and they fit over popper brakes. 13s if done correctly can work very well, but it's a different experience to driving with 10 or 12 and some people just don't get on with it. If you have good grip you have good handling, if you have poor grip you have poor handling Having good grip and poor handling is the same as having poor grip and good handling, No? Wrong. Handlig and grip is two different things. A mini hasn't got good handling at all, just loadsa grip. Do you think a F1 car handles well? No. It handles like shite if you go outside it's grip levels. im now at the stage where i dont know weather to go for 10's or 13's, the choice between the two wheels is silly so many good looking wheels but its the tyres that are getting me, there are only 3 good tyres you can get for 10's yoko 032,008 and avon molded slicks for the road with 13's you can get all sorts, dunlop, perelli, yoko's, avon's, toyo's and nitto tyres, im stuck on what to do now =/ Drives

Well, I have never been able to get that far sorting out the handling of ay of my minis, well thats my excuse :$ Carl, I thought as long as it stayed in a straight line in excess of 100mph you werent arsed about handling grip is more important

I can't notice much difference to be honest between 10's and 12's thats the thing though currently its just a shell :), it will be mk1 front and rear (not a mk1 boot though) mk4 doors in black with spechial arches on it, i want if very low and kinda sleeper with a good whack of power, i have given up on pure reliability as i now have a reliable car lol (106 =/) i want to use the car for fast road track and maybe the odd road rally. i really like the look of the green mini with 13x6's on it from AlexB's riv run pics i think that looks fooking awsome, but i love the look of 10's as well like wolfie's and cars on slotmags Drives

Hi, Evo, are they any taller or just a spot wider? Cheers, Gavin :) miby slightly taller(very slightly), but i find them much nicer to drive on 7" wide rims, tramiling/torquesteer and all the usuall wide 13" traits are much reduced. tried both dunlop's and continentals in this size. love em. but going slightly o/t. sorry :) turbo 16v k-series 11.9@118.9 :)
