Got home from work, decided to get the mini out and clean it, then go out for a hack this eve, when comming along the duely i see a puddle of oil appering on the bonnet and wing, pull over and pop the bonnet and its oil ahoy everywhere! not obvious where it was coming from, but suspect the rings have shit them selves as it looks like it has came out of the crankcase breathers.
Will do a compression test in the morning and see.
Anyone got an engine they want to sell, lol

thats what happened with mine dude, melted 2 pistons. still ran fine (did a trackday and drove to pod and back) but was chucking oil out of every hole possible on boost.

hope it is just the rings or something simple like a blocked breather causing too much pressure and chucking it out the other one.

Im more swaying to rings as it did smoke a tad, cant see any reason why it would melt a piston, its not long been set up on the rollers, was only running low boost too,

What pistons? I hope its not Megas..

That looks like a lot of oil.. even with shot rings I would not expect that much oil to spit out, would expect more smoke..

I had myself worried like this once, but it was the dipstick that dislodged itself and pissed oil everywhere, hope the compression test results in everything being ok mate!!!

My mini used to do this... but it turned out the cheap aftermarket dipstick i was using had the marks in the wrong place and there was loads too much oil in the engine, even though it was only to the top mark on the dipstick.

The breather on that side of the engine is a new one so thinking it would be ok, the oil is concentrated around the region of the breather tho, so am thinking the crancase has bee presurised? I was flat out an on full boost when this happened. oil level was a tad below full on dip stick, not over full. Need to sort out a few things for the house this morning, but will have a fudge around when I get back.
Tel, the pistons are std 1275 metro turbo ones, so dont panic, lol!
Cheers guys

Have you got a breather from the rocker box? Just one might not be enough.

LOL at nic.
Im running two breathers, one from the timing cover and one from the flywheel housing.
The ironic thing is I have bought a catch tank fron Dicanio, and was gonna fit it today, DOH!
gonna finnish my sarny then go do a compression test.

Right have done a compression test (engine hot) readings as follows.
no1, 135 psi
no2, 110 psi
no3, 140 psi
no4, 120 psi
tomorrow im going to disconnect the breathers and pipe them into an empty coke bottle, do a few runs up the duely one sencibly to see iff breathers spew out oil, then one on boost, just to prove where it is comming from. I have had a good look around and it looks like that is where it has originated from.
Cheers

do a wet test aswell to see how much the readings go up by, that will give a good indication of the condition of the rings. Does seem a bit hit and miss across all 4 though.

sorry to see that. A leak down test would be a better thing for you to do, as in turning your engine over you create a pressure even if the rings / pistions have a small leak.

Snakeii, yes i would stay away from the mega range.

Last year there MAY have been a batch of Megas that threw lands a bit too easily .. A few of us had that problem. However before that (and since??) they seem to be OK.. But having taken out 400 quids worth of them I would now recommend looking hard at the Accralites!!

Shane.. wet test is deffo needed, if the pressure come up a lot (esp on the already low ones) it would indicate rings.

I also had the loose dipstick problem, it really alarmed me initially -- oil everywhere!

I always found the standard breathers were terrible at separating oil and air, and could easily chuck oil out.
