I been cleaning out my old gearbox ready for a SC conversion, before i started with some gunk i put the sump plug back in which has been out since i drained it.

prob is i cannot tighten the plug, even by hand, it just keeps turning, i happened to have another washer and put that on which made things a bit better but not good enough.

im guessing the plug was sealed from being on there for so long, now ive taken it off it wont go back in and im stuck, can i add a 3rd washer and try that or is the whole box screwed? *oh well*

HI,
I'm sure Mini Spares used to do an over sized sump plug, so you just tap it out the next size up and job done. Failing that get it helicoiled, you can by the kit to do it yourself or your local engine place should be able to do it for you :)
I cobbled mine back together many years ago, thought I'd fixed it until it fell out on the motorway to Cornwall weeks later :(
Cheers,
Gavin :)
