Hi all

My last post was about my dump valve smelling excessively of petrol everytime it "dumped". So, I unscrewed the dump valve and checked to see if there was any petrol floating aroung in the DV. There was nothing so I put it back together again. Now, before I took it apart it was also excessively noisy with the psshht noise being very loud. Now it doesn't make any sort of noise but the car seems to go a lot better now with really smooth gear changes and very quick pickup on each gear change. I can hear a very feint, almost pneumatic type sound when changing gear. So, should I leave it as it is or should I investigate further to find out what has changed. How can I check to see if the DV is working ok?? The other thing I have noticed is the boost gauge is now very stable, where as before the needle was very irratic when off boost. I have DV signal and boost gauge plumbed to same take off on inlet.

Cheers
Rich

Interesting. What sort of boost do you run?

If less than 10 psi it's arguable is a DV is worthwhile. Most fit one as they either don't know better or they like the sound.

Mine sounds much like you describe, and always has.

Hi,
Is it a piston type?
Sounds like the piston has stuck.
Petrol does cause the o rings to swell...
Cheers,
Gavin :)

It's a diaphragm type DV. I have checked diaphragm and all looks ok. I am running about 8-9psi and like I said previously, it feels/runs so much better. I can't say I've notice any turbo flutter that you would get when running without a DV so I just what to try and confirm if it's working correctly, anybody got any tips on testing a DV?

Hi,
Take it off the car and suck on the vacuum signal pipe, you should be able to raise and lower the diaphragm.
Blow down the 25mm spout, this should be air tight with no vac on the signal line.
Cheers,
Gavin :)

Ok, I have tried blowing down the DV and I don't get any leaks and the diaphragm does not move so I guess this is correct? When I suck on the signal hose I don't see the diaphragm move. I have checked diaphragm for holes and it seems ok.

Has anybody tried testing DV by putting a "johnny" over it and seeing if it inflates?? Maybe it's time for the mini to pop it's cherry *laughing*

Hi,
Think that maybe your problem then. It should go up and down. Check you've refitted the spring in correctly.
The spring may be a smaller diameter at one end...
Cheers,
Gavin :)

just a thought... have you blocked up the standard valve in the plenum?
