my pug has developed a grounching and clicking noise this morning on anything over half lock on a right turn only, if i jack the car up there is nothing loose and if i dip the clutch on the bend the noise goes

i am sure its a cv joint but i only replaced that whole shaft 18k ago so am a bit worried it may be the diff

any ideas?

Diffs are known to bust on those gearboxes, how many miles has it done, and how many emergency starts have you done recently?

LOL @ emergency start.

Could be a diff - does it get worse or better at low speedS?

I bust a Pug diff in my old 405Mi16, emergency starts were the downfall of it, second hand boxes should be plentiful and cheap if you do need one, but I'd get the shaft in bits first. Odd for it to suddenly fail though, they usually click away merrily for quite some time before they fall to bits.

OK, so how old are all you pugs, is it my experiance, or when they get to 10 years old do all electrical systems seem to die? the 405 did it, now the 406 is.

driving in ours the other day, mum had a rant about how the odometer lights had stopped working, and she couldn't read it, then after that all the back illumination on the dash gave up completely.

Now the drivers electric window is playing up.

Mechanically its perfect though, even with 115k on the clock (which for the diesel is sod all I guess)

Hi,
405 electrics started going wrong after the first winter they went through. That crimped joint in the fan loom under the rad has killed a few head gaskets!
Cheers,
Gavin :)

going to jinx myself here now, my cars 10 this year and all bar the rev counter and botton on the key work fine, the car has been excellent value for money and very reliable considering how hard i drive it

your correct in your thinking *wink* i do think your tool chest in the back wa sa good help. haha good ol' pug.

glad you got it sorted with relative ease. I think everytime if tried to help you (notmally just stand and watch because i don't know what im doing) you have injured yourself in some way shape or form.
lol
