iv welded in mk1 rear light conversion plates. i have spent weeks rubbing, filling and painting.

eventually i got the drivers side perfect, primered it with a final coat nd it all started to crack and react.

i rubbed the reaction back, have used several types of paint and primers, even anti reaction degreaser from the paint shop.

all react. i am now losing the contors of the light raise, from the buildup of paint and constant rubbing back etc

im really pissed off with this, does anyone have advise of what a bodyshop uses to stop reactions like this as im very quickly losing my cool with this car.

Cossierick would be your best person to ask i believe as he is a sprayer (or i have got totally confused with someone else)

others obviously may also be sprayers but i just know that rick is. (i think lol)

i would just say is everything definately completely dry before adding the next coat?
did you high build primer after the filler and then flat this back, then the normal primer and paint?

but i am by no means an expert this is just from my small amount of experiece.

i had a bit of a reaction on my car, i rubbed it back smooth, put a light coat of top coat over it, and then painted over like normal a couple of mins later

It turned out fine

Hi,
No it's a paint, I'll not bother to tell you what to do with it. *wink* lol
Your local bodyshop supplier should have it on the shelf. :)
Cheers,
Gavin :)

Are you using cellulose? 2 pack primer shouldnt react. Thats what I use.

Paul

I seriously doubt it!

I wouldnt bother with arse'ol cans if youre getting it painted properly.
Its reacting because of the amount of solvent thats in an aerosol.

Paul

I seriously doubt it!

Hi, Yes its best to strip it back, even if you put a few dry coats on to seal it in it will allways sink in time with whatevers wrong underthere.
Try and do the filler work then prime, done keep putting different layres on eg filler ,primer, filler ,primer like the celly days as it will just cause more problems.
As said above make sure everything is dry and cured before putting things over it as it will make it sweat underneath.

i am with paul, avoid cans theres loads of solvent in them, i would also wait at least a few days between coats to really let the solvent come out

cheers, thanks for that. i will be painting the whole car over the summer. have all the kit for that, it seems crazy to get the spray gun out etc to prime just over the filler to show the imperfections. think il go to the spray shop and get some high build primer for it. what iv had from there before has been top stuff. thanks

Apply the paint really lightly in really thin coats and allow 15 mins betwen coats. Get the hair dryer on it to speed up the drying time. Hope this helps! Graham
