Costa del Northern Ireland :)

hi this is my second post so be gentle.......*oh well*

a few years ago i rebuilt my 998 to a fast road spec

+20 slipper pistons
12g940 head with pocketed block
sw5 camshaft with vernier timing gear
arp rod bolts with balanced rods
steel flywheel with orange cover and 's'plate
ballanced crank and bottom end
crank strap fitted.

tran x s/c c/r grarkit fitted
uprated diff pin fitted

the engine made 73bhp and 64lbs torque at the flywheel on the dyno

but eventually i crave more power.........

the plan is to turbocharge the 998, im going to make my own manifolds like the mirage kit. but which turbo charger would be suitable, the t2 i have read is capable of 125 but i would like 130/140, possibly the old t3 then?

i have been reading your threads about pistons but i cant seem to decide which pistons to go for to get my compression ratio lower 8.8/9.0
minispares megas
or
Hypatec
both +60's

And do you have to order the hypatec pistons from australia???

feel free to pick holes in my master plan*happy* so i can get started

Depending on what your CR is now, depends on how many extra CCs you need. You can get the extra CCs from modifing your chambers in the head or dished pistons. at a guess you'll need 4 or 5CCs extra.

Both the pistons you mention will be fine, by all accounts you'll save money ordering them from Oz, not done it myself.

For 140 bananas on a 998T you're going to need around 15psi with a T2. As I have said in another 998 thread, 15psi is not very efficient on the T2.

I had a look on minisport australia there but the only pistons they list are flat top versions I could dish them in my lathe but are there pistons out there with a dish that fit the 998 even if they need modifying a bit to get the right cr.

next up is getting the hold of some stainless and a turbo so i can mock up a manifold or i could just rummage throught the scrap bins in work for some offcuts *happy*

had a brainwave the other day,*surprised* i was thinking of fitting a front mounted radaitor which leaves a nice big hole beside the engine for a turbo and intercooler but wot i need to know is wot diameter of pipe do i need to make the manifold out of. i take there will be two different sizes to allow for the siemese ports*oh well*

Hi,
All the exhaust ports are the same size and all the inlet ports are the same size :)
Cheers,

but the middle exhaust port is shared And has to work twice as hard....*oh well* think i will get the calculator out................ And throw it away*happy*

Trial and error is the best way

The middle exhaust port is the only properly designed, it's used for every second cycle, so no need to increase the size.

If you are going to make your own manifold then hanging it over the clutch housing is bound to make the turbo easier to work with compared to between the bulkhead and block (I'm dreading plumbing mine in!). I would stick with the side rad as you want your intercooler in the airstream and thats easier done at the front than ducting air to the inner wing.

If you don't mind me asking, where did you go for your RR session? I'm not clued in on where is the best place in Norn Iron to go to set up etc.

i think the only way is just to try the manifold and see... i will put up a wee build diary if you folks want from start to finish:)

On the TT we use mega pistons, from Minispares, that are flat top and machine a dish in them.
