I would like to offset the weight of adding the rest of the roll cage by loosing some other stuff. So what is the weight of some of these bits?

Alloy rear drums compared to std.
Perspex windows for the doors, rear quarters and rear screen.
How much do the dash rails weigh?

anything else I can easily loose without breaking out the hole saw.

I may attack the doors too as they seem a bit baulky.

Thanks
James

Shropshire.

getting rid of the glass is a real weight saver.
That should be the first thing on the list.

What is the car used for? I say this because lots of weight saving can be made by removing things that cause more noise, or reduce the cars security, or make the car less watertight.

Minifins affect none of the above and pound for lb are good value (look good too)

you can save nearly 2kg a side for the rear quarters, and about 2.5kg for the rear screen alone when switching to perspex. front door glass weighs about 4.4kg so could save a fair bit here too.

i weighed quite abit of the stuff i took off mine when i put it on abit of a diet last year. http://www.turbominis.co.uk/forums/index.php?p=vt&tid=171654

will has a good point though, mine is not driven on the road very much and ear plugs are always used for anything over about 10 miles!

Its my only car. as long as it remains watertight thats all thats important, refinement isn't something that bothers me.

The dash rails only weigh in at 2 kg, but it looks better without them so they can go up in the roof.

Sold the turbo and seeing what the C20XE can do!

Near Lincoln

go from manual windows to eletric, those winders must weigh a few kilo's each!

Anyone know what sort of car would be ideal to donate the mechanism?

Like most on here I'd rather adapt someting from a scrapper, than buy a brand new mini specific kit.

I have just put all my carpetts and sound deadening back in *laughing*

Its no fun raveling 300 miles with the SC drop gears screaming and tthe drone of a single box 2" silencer all the while.

I dont care about the weight, it will give me some motivation to getting the turbo fitted *wink* If its not fast enough, just turn up the boost a little more :) Seeing as I will bee keeping the 3.76 FD, i dont see the weight as being a problem *tongue*

Been there, trying to shed the weight and didnt like it

As for windo winders, Maplins do electric window regulator kits and not at too bad a price either

So when some joey comes on here about how his 16v turbo vauxhall is great compared to ours, he can be given the 'bird'...

I see what your saying Sproc, I won't be stripping my car out as I don't really fancy losing all the conforts and only dropping point something of a second off your 1/4 times. Each to their own of course!

Mine weighs in at 654Kg's (No CF yet), still got 23kg's worth of seats to come out 5 windows to repace with polycarb ones and beam to fit. Fitting these should hopefully have mine down to around the 600kg's. *happy*
