I've just done all the suspension on the mini, everything new and adjustable. I would like optimum handling but also like the look of a decked car.

Im running progressive bump stops front and rear which I will need to cut down to suit the height i decide on.

Is there such a thing as a mini that is too low??. Im confident i can mount my exhaust pretty high up, and the car isnt a daily driver now so i will be avoiding speedhumps whenever possible.

What are your opinions and experiences?

Car atm... Looks cool but is it right to drive like it? (and yes i know i need arches *happy* )

Cheers Guys!

Anton

Looking at it, it's running about the same height as the TT. We run that with the front bottom arms level. Problem is at this height, the top arm is at such an angle that the effective spring rate at the front is very small, so you'll need yellow dots as a minimum.

You also need to check if your ball joints bind. This is easy to check. Remove the shock and doughnut and lift the suspension as high as it'll go. It needs to hit the bumpstop before binding; in my experience, with negative camber, this isn't a problem.

And, obviously you need some serious body mods.

Finally, at the back, check how close the brake pipe is to the bodywork. I moved mine and put it underneath the radius arm.

When I have my new house I'll be hapy to set your car up using my stuff if you need it done, but I obviously live miles away. This goes for anyone.

That won't work, you've obviously got no suspension travel. Dangerous and silly.

Hi,
That's low! If you can get a comfortable car at that height let me know, I'd love to have mine down in the weeds! *happy*
Cheers,
Gavin :)

I'm about to set mine up 'low' too. Aiming for about 2" of clearance between the rear tyre and the [steel] arch. Bouncing the car by standing in the boot suggests there will be enough clearance, but it won't be until I run it around a few bends that I'll know whether I'm too low. Front end I just keep hacking back to gain clearance!

I've noticed on some race cars (my mate races a Se7en) that the tie bars may need re-mounting at the front, but I've not reached the stage of setting the geometry yet, other than to try and line up arches.

looks gorgeous but i think it will be too low unless what has been said above is done. a nice bit of tubbing and choping should make it possible.

go for it! looks mean! and its not the end of the world if u do need to alter it!

Yeah the bottom arms are pretty much horizontal :) only running standard donuts atm, will take a look into yellows.

nice idea... will do this later... the bump stops are the hydrospasic type that mount to the shock mounting, so should be able you just remove it and cut it down to suit.

I don’t mind cutting chunks out the front... I just don’t fancy tubbing the rear. As i have rear bump stops, i assume i can get away with it??

Already done, i have the minispares single piece braided hose. Replaces the solid and flexy hose. So its tied up neatly round the back.

Your not too far tbo, it needs setting up before avon so i guess you wont be moved by then? *happy*

Don't think you'll get away with the rear! *surprised*
It's fairly easy to tub an estate :)

Looks awsome!!

Mines almost on the bump stops at the front but doesnt "look" low at all its really strange? Havnt looked into it yet as im doing other jobs but was thinking its might be something to do with rubber cones!

If you can run it that low, would be wicked!

I would say that you should run the fuel lines inside the car. Safest option as it may not look too good after you've taken your fuel lines out by a speed bump.

Looks quality though. Mine is running about the same height, maybe even lower and the joints and bearings seem to be withstanding it ok.

I've decided not to even try to get mine lower after I took my entire exhaust from the manifold back off, driving up a country lane.

will you not be scrubbing like hell, if you try to pull onto an uneven surface?
